Shauna Green’s Illinois program keeps adding to the sense that something real is taking shape in Champaign, and the latest name to watch is a big one for the future.
The Illini already have a frontcourt headlined by All-American Berry Wallace and Big Ten All-Freshman Cearah Parchment, a pairing that helped power a 22-12 season and carry Illinois back to the NCAA tournament for the third time in the past four years. That young core put the country on notice, and the recruiting trail now offers a chance to keep the momentum rolling.
One of the players linked to that next wave is Eve Fowler, a Newport Beach, California, product from Sage Hill. Fowler is a four-star center ranked No. 55 nationally in ESPN’s Super 60 rankings, and at 6-foot-3 she has already made her presence felt in the paint. As a sophomore, she averaged 10.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 34 games.
If Illinois lands Fowler, the fit on paper is easy to see. Wallace would already be gone by then, having graduated the year before, while Parchment would still be in the program for her fourth and final season. That would give Fowler a chance to step into a frontcourt that still has a familiar anchor beside her.
The Illini got plenty out of their bigs last season because both Wallace and Parchment could stretch the floor. Wallace shot 34.7% from three-point range, while Parchment connected at 40.7%, giving Green scoring options all over the court.
Fowler would bring a different look. She projects as a player who lives around the basket, especially on defense, and her numbers suggest she can already be a serious force inside. With Illinois surrounding the paint with shooters, she could settle in as a regular post presence and give the Illini another tough interior piece.
For now, Fowler is a name to track as 2028 gets closer. If Illinois can close on the talented center, the frontcourt picture in Champaign should stay strong.
