Illinois is set to get a look at one of the biggest names in the Class of 2027 this week, with five-star guard NaVorro Bowman Jr. arriving for an official visit beginning Thursday.
Bowman is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 11 overall prospect in the class and the No. 2 combo guard. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound California guard comes in with plenty of attention already attached to his name, and not just because of his game. He’s the son of former NFL All-Pro linebacker Navorro Bowman.
The Illini won’t have Bowman to themselves for long. He was at UConn last weekend and already has more high-profile trips lined up, including Texas on Sept. 19 and Arizona on Sept. 25.
On the floor, Bowman has backed up the hype. This summer on the Nike EYBL 17U circuit, he finished as the fourth-leading scorer, putting up 20.5 points per game along with 3.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.6 steals for Team Why Not.
His junior season at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Calif., was just as productive. Bowman averaged 22.5 points per game while shooting 51% from the field and 34% from three.
He also made an impact on the international stage, helping Team USA win the FIBA U17 World Cup. In that event, he averaged 11.9 points, 3.6 assists and 2.7 rebounds.
Illinois now gets its turn to host him in Champaign, with the official visit giving the program a chance to make its case as Bowman’s recruitment keeps moving.

Mac Resetich Could Become A Bigger Illinois Weapon Fast
Mac Resetich has settled into Illinois new 3-3-5 defensive scheme quickly enough that he is already looking like more than just another experienced body in the secondary. The senior defensive back has brought the athleticism and speed the coaching staff wanted to see, and he has also flashed the kind of open-field skill that can change field position in a hurry, including a 65-yard punt return in the season opener.
Defensive coordinator Bobby Hauck has been encouraged by Resetichs work ethic and the way he has taken to the new system, even if there is still room to tighten up the tackling side of his game. For Illinois, that makes Resetich an intriguing piece: a veteran who is adapting fast on defense while also hinting at a bigger role as a punt returner if the production keeps trending in the same direction.
