The first injury report for Texans-Colts already has some real weight to it, especially for Houston.
When both teams took the field Wednesday, the Texans were missing six players from practice, and a few of those absences could matter a lot by Sunday. The Colts had their own concerns too, including a receiver now headed to Injured Reserve and a starting corner who’s trending as a player to watch all week.
For Houston, the biggest name on the list is Nico Collins. The wideout did not practice for the third straight day after suffering a hamstring strain last Wednesday before the Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. That puts his status for the divisional matchup firmly in question.
The Texans also had two right-side offensive line starters sitting out: Ed Ingram and Trent Brown. Ingram is dealing with a groin injury and would be missing his second game. Brown is working through a knee issue on top of a wrist ailment that has been bothering him for a couple of weeks.
On defense, Jadeveon Clowney was sidelined again with a knee injury, and linebacker Jake Hummel also missed practice because of a groin issue. Both players were out last game with those same injuries, so their Week 3 availability is still very much up in the air.
The one Texans DNP that doesn’t carry much suspense is Dalton Schultz. The tight end sat out Wednesday for rest, so his absence is not expected to be a concern.
Houston’s report also included Will Anderson as limited with rest, Logan Hall limited with a knee issue, and MJ Stewart limited with a quad injury. Reed Blankenship was listed as full with a thumb injury, and Wade Woodaz was full with a thumb injury.
The Colts’ injury report featured a few important names as well. Alec Pierce did not practice because of a heel injury, and that issue has already pushed him onto Injured Reserve for the next four weeks after he was hurt against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Charvarius Ward also missed Wednesday’s session with a groin injury suffered in that same game, though he still has a chance to be ready by Sunday depending on how the next two days go.
Elsewhere for Indianapolis, Ashton Dulin was out with an ankle injury, while Keenan Allen and Jonathan Taylor were both limited for rest. Sauce Gardner was full with a rib injury, Matt Goncalves was full with a foot issue, and Laquon Treadwell was full with a shoulder injury.
The Texans still have two more practices to get a clearer picture, but right now it looks like Houston could be heading into Week 3 without several key pieces, much like it did against Cincinnati.

Texans Fans Had Every Reason To Watch C.J. Stroud Closely
C.J. Stroud gave Texans fans a brief scare after the game when he appeared to limp, but the quarterback brushed it off as the sort of normal bumps and bruises that come with a season. For a Houston team built around his presence and poise, even a small hitch in his movement is enough to draw attention, especially with the offense so clearly centered on how he feels and functions week to week.
DeMeco Ryans said he had not yet seen Stroud after the game, though the coach said he hoped the quarterback was fine. For now, there is no indication Stroud is dealing with a significant injury, which is the main thing Houston wanted to hear after watching him leave the field with that slight concern hanging in the air. Texans Head To Indianapolis With One Worry Growing Fast
The first two weeks have left Houston with a familiar kind of unease: enough defensive progress to see a path forward, but not nearly enough offensive rhythm to feel good about where this season is headed. After losses to Buffalo and Cincinnati, the Texans have slid in a number of power rankings, and the common theme around the league has been the same one showing up on the field - the offense has not matched the rest of the roster.
Now comes a Week 3 trip to Indianapolis that already feels heavier than an early September game should. C.J. Stroud still looks like the engine of the franchise, but he needs more help, especially up front, where the offensive line remains the clearest concern. The Colts offer a chance to steady the tone before the schedule gets away from Houston, and it is hard to miss how much hinges on the Texans getting the protection and support Stroud needs. Nick Caley Is Already Facing Heat In A Huge Colts Test
Through 22 games, the early returns on Texans offensive coordinator Nick Caley have been under the microscope, and the scrutiny is getting louder as Houston tries to dig out of an 0-2 hole. Former NFL player Chris Long recently questioned some of Caleys play-calling choices, adding another layer to the frustration around an offense that has also been slowed by injuries at wide receiver.
The timing is hardly ideal, because Houston is staring at a must-win matchup with the Colts and trying to avoid another sluggish start that has now become part of the conversation around the team. With the offense still searching for rhythm and confidence, this game feels less like a September checkpoint and more like an early test of whether Caley and the Texans can steady things before the season starts to tilt away from them.
