Texans Trade Deadline Focus Is Zeroing In On Two Trouble Spots

As the NFL trade deadline looms, the Houston Texans explore bolstering their roster with potential deals for key positions impacted by injuries.

The Texans are nearing the NFL trade deadline, and while the early buzz around Houston has been fairly quiet, a new report suggests the front office has at least taken a look at two spots that could use help.

According to SI’s Albert Breer, the Texans have “checked in” on available running backs and safeties. The specific names remain unclear, but the interest lines up with where Houston has run into trouble this season.

Running back has been hit hard by injuries and uneven production. David Montgomery has been sidelined since a groin injury in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans, leaving him out for essentially four games.

Jawhar Jordan was also placed on injured reserve after a standout showing in Week 6. That has left Woody Marks, Dare Ogunbowale, and newly signed Emari Demercado atop the depth chart heading into Week 9 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

If the Texans can find a back who fits the price, adding another option for the second half of the season would make sense.

Safety is another area where Houston could look for help. Reed Blankenship has struggled in his first few games with the team and has also missed Weeks 7 and 9 after the bye because of a concussion and hand injury. Jalen Pitre has dealt with a shoulder injury as well, though he is expected back against the Chargers.

The numbers underline the issue. The Texans rank 29th in the NFL in passing yards allowed and have only three interceptions through seven games. If Blankenship’s absence stretches longer than expected, or if Houston simply wants more stability on the back end, safety could be a logical deadline target.

General manager Nick Caserio said at the bye that Houston had spoken with essentially every team in the league ahead of the deadline, though he did not suggest a deal was close. The Texans have until 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, November 10th, to make any move.

Texans Face A Jadeveon Clowney Decision Fans Wont Ignore

As the NFL trade deadline draws closer, Jadeveon Clowney has become one of the more intriguing names on Houstons roster. The veteran edge rusher has drawn trade interest, and the Texans are weighing whether to keep a proven presence on the field or turn that value into future draft capital as they continue shaping the roster for the long term.

Clowneys reported comfort with the idea of landing with a contending team only adds another layer to the conversation, even though nothing has been finalized. For Houston, the decision is less about sentiment than timing and direction, and with no official move announced yet, the uncertainty around his future is now part of the deadline picture. Texans Now Face A New Chargers Wrinkle In Week 9

The Texans Week 9 prep just picked up a new layer, with Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel deciding to move from the sideline to the coaches booth when he calls plays against Houston. McDaniel said the switch is about getting a better view of the game and improving communication with his staff, a small but meaningful adjustment as the Chargers continue trying to sort out an offense that has struggled through an 0-7 start.

For Houston, it adds a wrinkle to a matchup that already matters plenty as the Texans look to stay sharp against a team searching for answers. McDaniel will keep his play-calling duties, but the change in vantage point could alter how the Chargers operate on game day, and it gives the Texans one more thing to account for as they prepare for Week 9. Jaguars Face A Brian Thomas Jr. Debate Fans Never Expected

The AFC South has a way of turning one teams uncertainty into everyone elses problem, and this latest round of noise is no different. Anthony Richardson was back on the field for 14 snaps in Week 8 after recovering from an eye injury, and his gratitude for being able to see well enough to play was a reminder of how fragile the quarterback picture can get. At the same time, reports around the division have Colts wideout Josh Downs asking out, with the Chiefs and Steelers said to be interested, while some executives are skeptical Indianapolis would even land a third-round pick.

For Houston, the more immediate concern is the ripple effect in Jacksonville, where speculation has started to swirl around Brian Thomas Jr. and what the Jaguars might do next. The Texans have their own issues to sort through, with coaches and executives pointing to execution rather than scheme as the reason for the defensive struggles, but any movement in the divisions pass-catching market would matter. If Jacksonville really entertains the idea, it would add another layer of intrigue to a race that already feels unsettled. [Read more 🡒]
