The Houston Texans may need to lean on Jaden Crumedy sooner than expected.
After a 19-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3, Houston is already dealing with another concern on the defensive line. Mario Edwards left in the second half with a knee injury, was listed as questionable, and did not return. KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reported that one source was optimistic about Edwards’ status, but the early look at the injury - with the veteran unable to walk off under his own power - leaves open the possibility that he misses time.
That would matter a lot for a Texans front that is already thin on the interior. Rookie Kayden McDonald is on injured reserve, and if Edwards is sidelined too, Houston would be down two of its top depth options inside.
If that happens, Crumedy looks like the next man up. He was the one who replaced Edwards when the injury first happened in Week 3, and the Texans do not have many other choices on the roster.
On the 53-man group, Houston has just three listed defensive tackles outside of Edwards: Crumedy, plus starters Sheldon Rankins and Tommy Togiai. Logan Hall can slide inside or rush off the edge, but he already played nearly 40% of the defensive snaps in Week 3.
That leaves Houston with a pretty narrow path if it wants to cover Edwards’ snaps without overextending the rest of the line. Unless the Texans promote their only defensive tackle on the practice squad, Junior Tafuna, and throw him into a meaningful role right away, Crumedy could be looking at around 20 to 25 snaps in Week 4 if Edwards and McDonald are both unavailable.
The sample size on Crumedy is tiny. In two games with Houston, he has not recorded any stats and has played just 18 total snaps.
For his career, he has logged fewer than 200 defensive snaps and has 15 combined tackles. So there is still plenty unknown about what he can give the Texans if his number gets called.
Still, the opportunity is there. Houston’s next game against the Dallas Cowboys looms as a must-win, and a strong showing from Crumedy could put him in position for a larger role as the season moves along.

Texans Bring Back A Familiar Veteran As RB Concern Grows
The Texans have turned to a familiar face to shore up their backfield before Week 4, signing running back Dare Ogunbowale off the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad and onto the 53-man roster. Ogunbowale is no stranger to Houston, having spent the past several seasons with the team and carving out his role mostly on special teams while also chipping in as a runner when needed.
With the Cowboys up next, the move gives Houston some extra depth at a position that has become a concern. Ogunbowales return gives the Texans a dependable veteran option who already knows the system and the expectations, which can matter just as much as raw production when the roster is getting stretched thin. Case Keenum Just Delivered A Prime-Time Moment Texans Fans Will Love
Case Keenum got the kind of prime-time opportunity that can still stir up a little nostalgia in Houston, stepping in for the injured Caleb Williams and helping the Chicago Bears knock off the Philadelphia Eagles, 27-7. It was Keenums first regular-season NFL game since 2023, and he looked right at home, completing 24 of 34 passes for 247 yards while throwing two touchdowns and adding another score on the ground.
For Texans fans, it is an easy one to smile at because Keenums name still carries real weight in Houston, where he once helped give the franchise one of its most memorable stretches at quarterback. Even with the Bears win carrying the night, the bigger takeaway was the way Keenum handled the moment, protected the ball and delivered a composed performance when the spotlight was brightest. Colts Passing Game Just Put Pressure On One New Receiver
The Colts passing game took a hit when Alec Pierce landed on injured reserve with a heel injury, but the move also opened the door for Darius Slayton to step into a bigger role right away. Signed to help fill the void, Slayton arrives with some built-in familiarity after reuniting with quarterback Daniel Jones, his old Giants teammate, and he has already begun working closely with wide receivers coach Reggie Wayne to get up to speed in Indianapolis.
From the Texans perspective, the timing matters because C.J. Stroud and Houston are trying to shake off an 0-3 start and find more explosive production on offense. Stroud has pointed to the need for those chunk plays while also expressing confidence that the team can turn things around as injured players return, which makes any change in the divisions passing games worth watching a little more closely.
