With Nico Collins sidelined for the Houston Texans’ playoff clash against the New England Patriots, there’s no doubt fans are feeling the sting of another absence-Tank Dell, the dynamic wideout who’s been MIA all season.
Dell, known for his electric speed and ability to stretch the field, hasn’t suited up once this year. And as the postseason rolls on, that’s not about to change. For a team that’s shown flashes of offensive brilliance, the continued absence of one of its most exciting playmakers is hard to ignore.
So, what exactly happened to Tank Dell?
Late last season, Dell suffered a significant knee injury-dislocating his left kneecap and tearing ligaments in the same knee. It was a brutal blow, both for Dell and for a Texans offense that had started to find its rhythm with him in the lineup. Since then, the recovery process has kept him off the field entirely.
Dell, who turned 26 earlier this season, hasn’t had the chance to build on the promising start to his career. Through 25 NFL games, he’s racked up 98 catches for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns-a solid stat line that only hints at the kind of impact he can have when healthy. His ability to create separation, make defenders miss, and turn short gains into big plays made him a favorite target and a key part of Houston’s offensive identity.
But as of now, there’s been no indication that a return is coming this season. No practice reps, no updates suggesting a surprise comeback. Just silence-and that silence is loud for a Texans team that could use all the firepower it can get.
It doesn’t help that running back Joe Mixon has also been out for the year. The Texans still have weapons, no doubt.
But when you take away two of your most dynamic skill players, it changes the equation. It forces others to step up, and it limits what you can do schematically-especially in the postseason, when every edge matters.
Houston’s offense has found ways to adapt and compete, but there’s no question that having Tank Dell on the field would give them another gear.
