Texans Need Their Stars To Answer One Big Week 7 Challenge

Both teams have something to prove in a critical Week 7 matchup as the Texans seek a third straight win and the Giants try to hold onto their NFC East lead.

The Texans get the Giants in Week 7, and the game comes with a few matchups that could decide whether Houston stacks a third straight win.

New York arrives with a 3-2 record and first place in the NFC East, so the Giants are not the kind of opponent the Texans can afford to treat casually. Even with Houston carrying more talent on paper, this one has enough pressure points to keep a close eye on back at home.

The most obvious battle starts with Malik Nabers. He has been the center of the Giants’ offense lately, and the numbers over the last two weeks show just how much volume he’s been handling: 35 targets, 23 catches, 286 yards and a touchdown.

On the other side of that, Derek Stingley Jr. gets the assignment. Stingley is coming off back-to-back All-Pro appearances in 2024 and 2025, and this shapes up as one of Nabers’ toughest individual tests of the season.

Houston’s secondary has not been spotless recently. The Texans already saw CeeDee Lamb rip them for 17 catches, 189 yards and a touchdown, so there is reason to wonder how they’ll hold up if Nabers gets loose. If Stingley and the rest of the secondary can keep him contained, Houston’s path gets a lot cleaner.

Another key swing factor is the pass rush. Last weekend against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Texans failed to record a sack even with Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter both on the field. That was unusual territory for a defense that had at least one sack in every game of the 2025 season, and had not gone without one through the first five weeks of 2026.

Back at home, Houston should have a better shot at getting after the quarterback, and Danielle Hunter stands out as the player to watch on that front. He’ll draw the tougher matchup against Andrew Thomas on the left side, and if Anderson stays on the kind of pace that has him in DPOY territory, Hunter could be the piece that helps the pressure really take off.

Then there’s the Giants’ quarterback situation, which makes this matchup even more interesting. J.J.

McCarthy is set to face a Texans defense that has been praised as one of the best in the NFL, but his career has already been a roller coaster. The source of that ride is clear: a season-ending injury, poor play with the Minnesota Vikings, and now a trade to the Giants that has him starting in Week 7.

What Houston gets from its defense could shape the whole afternoon. If the Texans look more like they did against the Jaguars, when Trevor Lawrence threw for over 300 yards and four touchdowns, McCarthy may be able to settle in and move the ball. If Houston plays closer to the level it showed against the Tennessee Titans and Cam Ward, the Giants could be in for a rough day.

Texans Suddenly Have A Week 7 Problem Fans Can't Ignore

The Texans opened the week with a familiar dose of injury concern, and their first report before Sundays matchup with the Giants made it clear this is a roster still working through multiple moving parts. Several players were limited or held out of practice as Houston tries to sort through the health of key contributors, while the uncertainty around the secondary and skill positions continues to hang over the buildup to Week 7.

There is some relief on the way with Tank Dell slated to return after being designated for return from injured reserve, but the rest of the picture is less settled. David Montgomery and Jalen Pitre remain week-to-week, Reed Blankenship is still in concussion protocol, and Dalton Schultz is working back from a calf injury, leaving Houston with a few important questions to answer before kickoff. C.J. Stroud Is Giving Texans Fans A Bigger Reason To Believe

C.J. Strouds latest standout afternoon gave Texans fans another reason to feel good about where this season is headed. The NFL named the Houston quarterback AFC Offensive Player of the Week after his performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars, when he completed 24 of 34 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns while steering Houston to a victory on a game-winning drive.

It was the fourth time Stroud has taken home the weekly honor, a reminder of how quickly he has become the steadying force at the center of this offense. For a Texans team trying to keep building on its momentum, performances like that do more than pad a rsum - they keep raising the ceiling on what this group can become. [Read more 🡒]

Texans Have A Few Clear Risers Heading Into A Pivotal Week 7

Six weeks into the season, the Texans are starting to get a clearer read on which pieces are trending up as they head into a pivotal Week 7 matchup with the Giants. C.J. Stroud has steadied his footing, Will Anderson has continued to flash as a defensive force, and a few younger names have helped change the feel of the roster with timely, noticeable production. Houston has also seen encouraging signs from Woody Marks, Jaylin Noel and Calen Bullock, all of whom have added momentum at a point in the year when teams usually start separating from the pack.

The bigger picture for the Texans is that not every stock line is moving in the same direction. David Montgomery has either struggled to find consistency or been unavailable because of injury, which only sharpens the contrast between the players climbing and the ones still trying to settle in. Week 7 now becomes a useful measuring stick for Houston, not just in the standings but in how real these risers look as the season pushes deeper into October. [Read more 🡒]
