With the NFL trade deadline a little less than three weeks out, the Texans are already starting to show up in the rumor mill.
Houston has made a couple of acquisitions over the past few months in Kayshon Boutte and Marvin Harrison Jr., but the latest chatter points in the other direction. The player drawing the most attention now is two-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman Wyatt Teller.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported that Teller has been viewed as "potentially available" ahead of the deadline because his new situation in Houston hasn’t worked out.
"Sometimes, circumstances change or things don't work out as expected, so teams will pivot if the terms are favorable," Graziano wrote. "A couple of other 2026 free agent signings who stand out as potentially available due to their situations not working out include Texans offensive lineman Wyatt Teller and Eagles cornerback Riq Woolen."
That kind of move would not come out of nowhere. Teller arrived in Houston earlier this offseason on a two-year, $16 million deal with the expectation that he would compete for the starting left guard job. At the time, he looked like the favorite to land that spot.
Instead, the Texans went another direction as the season approached. Rookie Keylan Rutledge was set to start at left guard, Evan Brown at center, and Ed Ingram at right guard.
Teller did get a shot in Weeks 2 and 3, starting at right guard while Ingram dealt with a groin injury. Once Ingram returned, Teller slid back into a reserve role, which is a place he has not spent much time during what has been a fairly successful career.
That is why a trade is now at least on the table. Rather than leave Teller on the bench for the rest of the regular season, Houston could try to move him and salvage something from the investment. Teller would get a chance to restart somewhere else and possibly find a starting job.
Whether that happens comes down to what kind of offer the Texans can get back. Teller is in the back-nine of his career and hasn’t played well enough to force his way into Houston’s starting five, so the return may not be all that rich. Still, a day three pick or something in that range could be enough to get the front office interested.
For now, it’s a situation worth watching. Telller’s stay in Houston may end up being a short one.

DeMeco Ryans Just Sent A Warning Texans Fans Should Notice
DeMeco Ryans did not let the Texans win over the Jaguars mask what he saw on defense. After the game, the Houston coach made it clear that tackling needs to get better right away, pointing out that his unit was often in the right place but did not finish the play. Too many runners were able to bounce off contact, and that kind of missed opportunity is the sort of detail a coach notices even in a victory.
The timing makes the message more pointed, with the Giants coming next and bringing a physical rushing attack to the matchup. For Houston, that puts the spotlight squarely on fundamentals, because being in position will not be enough if the tackles are not completed. Ryans warning sounded less like postgame frustration and more like an early reminder that the margin for error shrinks fast against a team built to run through arm tackles. [Read more 🡒]
Texans Linked To A Big Backfield Idea For Strouds Offense
With the Texans still looking to maximize the supporting cast around C.J. Stroud, Saquon Barkley has surfaced as a name worth watching in the kind of offseason idea that can change the feel of an offense quickly. The discussion is tied to Philadelphias willingness to even consider moving the veteran back, and Houston is among the teams mentioned as a possible fit because Barkleys all-around ability would give Stroud another dynamic piece to lean on.
The appeal is obvious for a Texans offense that wants more ways to stress defenses and create easier answers in the passing game. Still, the hurdle is just as clear: Barkley is getting close to 30, and that naturally shapes how other teams would value him in any trade conversation. For now, it is a matter of fit and possibility rather than a deal that is close to happening. [Read more 🡒]
C.J. Stroud Is Making The Texans Feel Better About A Huge Gamble
C.J. Strouds decision to turn down a Texans extension worth more than $50 million per year looked like a bold bet when it became public, but six weeks into the 2026 season, it has only strengthened his position. The third-year quarterback has been playing at a high level, sitting near the top of the league in passing yards while keeping his touchdown-to-interception ratio in strong shape.
For Houston, the bigger takeaway is not just Strouds confidence in himself, but how well the team has helped him turn that confidence into production. The Texans have given him a strong wide receiver group, and the result has been a season that makes the gamble feel a lot less risky from the outside. The only real question now is how high Strouds market value climbs if this pace holds. [Read more 🡒]
