The Houston Texans had more than a missed chance on their hands in Week 7. Their 27-21 loss to the New York Giants came with an added headache after Jaylin Noel left with a turf toe injury and did not return.
After the game, DeMeco Ryans said Noel was still being evaluated. Jonathan M.
Alexander of the Houston Texans later reported, “DeMeco Ryans said Jaylin Noel has a turf toe injury, which is why he didn’t return. He’s wearing a boot.”
Noel’s day ended in the fourth quarter after he was hurt on a kickoff return against New York. Before leaving, he caught two passes on two targets for minus-three receiving yards. He also chipped in on special teams with a 21-yard kickoff return and an 11-yard punt return.
Houston never really got much going through the air. Nico Collins finished with two catches for six yards, and Noel’s exit only thinned out an already quiet passing attack. The Texans did push the game into overtime, but the offense couldn’t finish the job.
The injury stings even more because Noel came in off a strong Week 6 performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars, when he put up 107 receiving yards.
The Texans do have their bye week coming up, which gives Noel extra time to recover and gives the team a window to assess how serious the injury is. Turf toe can mean different things depending on the severity, so the next update will matter a lot.
Houston dropped to 2-5 with the loss, while the Giants moved to 4-2-1 before their bye week.

Texans Trade Deadline Pressure Is Rising But Caserio Isn't Budging
The Texans latest loss only sharpened the scrutiny on the front office, with Houston dropping to 2-5 after a 27-21 overtime defeat to the Giants in Week 7. For a team that entered the season with higher hopes, the setback added more urgency around a roster that has yet to find steady footing, especially as inconsistency continues to show up on both sides of the ball.
Nick Caserio did little to feed the trade-deadline speculation in his press conference, saying the Texans do not expect to make major personnel changes. The message was clear: Houston believes the fix has to come from cleaner, more consistent play, even as the defense sits in the bottom half of the league in most major categories aside from rushing yards allowed. Texans Suddenly Have A WR Concern Heading Into The Bye
The Texans receiving depth took a hit in Week 7 when Jaylin Noel left the game against the Giants with a turf toe injury, a setback that came at an awkward time with the bye week arriving next. DeMeco Ryans confirmed the injury afterward and said Noel is still being evaluated, leaving Houston to wait and see how much time the rookie wideout might miss.
Noel was reportedly in a walking boot after the game, which is never a great sign for a player whose role had been growing as the season moved along. With the Texans heading into a break, the extra days should help clarify the outlook, but the issue is now one the offense has to monitor closely as it prepares for the second half of the schedule. Texans Bye-Week Grades Put More Pressure On Stroud Than Ever
The Texans bye week offered a chance to step back and assess where the offense stands after seven games, and the grades paint a familiar picture of a unit leaning heavily on C.J. Stroud. He drew an A for his passing work, while the rest of the supporting cast landed all over the map, from a B for the wide receivers to a C+ for the tight ends.
What stands out most is how thin the margin has been elsewhere. The running backs were tagged with a D for ineffective rushing, and the offensive line earned an F after a stretch defined by poor play and injuries, leaving Stroud to carry far more of the load than Houston would like this early in the season.
