Texans Have A Huge Chance To Keep Rolling If 3 Things Hold

Can the Texans capitalize on New York's quarterback woes and extend their winning streak with a strategic blend of offense and defense?

The Texans have gone from dead in the water to carrying a little heat into Week 7, and the formula for keeping it rolling is pretty straightforward.

After starting 0-4, Houston has ripped off two straight wins, capped by a wild 34-31 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. C.J.

Stroud threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns in that one, and Ka’imi Fairbairn ended it with a 49-yard game-winning field goal. Now the Texans are back at Reliant Stadium for a Sunday, Oct. 25 showdown with the New York Giants.

Houston is 2-4. New York arrives at 3-2-1 after a 34-27 loss to New Orleans.

The Texans don’t need a makeover to make it three in a row. They just need to carry three things home from London.

The first is Stroud’s aggression, with a little more care attached to it.

Against Jacksonville, Houston got the version of Stroud it wants: 24 completions on 34 attempts, 312 yards, three touchdowns, and a calm response on the final drive when the game was tied again. But there was also the interception in the end zone late, his first of the season, and it nearly changed everything.

New York has shown it can create takeaways, with six interceptions on the year, tied for fifth in the NFL according to the league's matchup statistics. Stroud needs to push the ball downfield, but he can’t hand the Giants short fields or easy momentum.

The second is relentless pressure on whoever New York puts at quarterback.

That situation is still unsettled after J.J. McCarthy replaced Jameis Winston in Sunday’s loss to New Orleans.

Winston had thrown two interceptions before McCarthy entered and nearly sparked a comeback. Giants coach John Harbaugh said Monday that the team was still working through its decision on who will start against Houston.

Whoever gets the nod, the Texans should bring the same answer: pressure, pressure, and more pressure. Houston has 18 sacks through six games, third-most in the NFL entering the matchup, while the Giants have eight.

New York also turned it over four times against New Orleans, and Houston enters Week 7 with a plus-three turnover differential.

The final piece is keeping the offense balanced enough that it doesn’t become a one-man show.

The London win wasn’t just about Stroud airing it out. Jaylin Noel had a career-high 107 receiving yards and a touchdown, Foster Moreau caught two scoring passes, and the running backs chipped in too, including Woody Marks’ key late catch that helped set up Fairbairn’s winner.

That mix is the blueprint. Houston should keep enough of a running game alive to force New York to respect it, work the short passing game, and attack the middle before taking deeper shots when the defense starts to creep up.

The Texans have climbed out of a rough opening stretch, and back-to-back wins have given them something real to build on. Beating the Giants would make this week look a lot different, especially with the bye week sitting right after it. A win would send Houston into that break at 3-4 with three straight victories and a lot more confidence than it had a few weeks ago.

The Texans went all the way across the Atlantic Ocean to find another piece of their confidence. Now it’s time to bring it back to H-Town.

Texans Catch A Huge Break Against Giants At Exactly The Right Time

The Texans will get an easier path on offense in Week 7 after the Giants ruled out defensive back Jevon Holland and tight end Theo Johnson because of injury. New York also enters the matchup dealing with the loss of linebacker Tremaine Edmunds for the rest of the season, a hit that strips another important piece from a defense that has helped keep the Giants in first place in the NFC East.

For Houston, the timing matters. The Texans are trying to make the most of every opportunity they can get, and facing a Giants team that will be short-handed in multiple spots gives them a better chance to press an advantage before New York heads into its Week 8 bye. Exactly how much that changes the matchup will be part of the story once the game kicks off. [Read more 🡒]

Texans Get An Early Edge Against A Shorthanded Giants Team

The Giants injury list keeps growing ahead of their Week 7 matchup with the Texans, and the latest absences only make Houstons path look a little cleaner. New York has already been dealing with defensive issues, and now it has ruled out safety Jevn Holland after concussion protocol and tight end Theo Johnson because of a neck injury, two more hits to a roster that is thinning at an inconvenient time.

For a Texans team trying to stack wins and stay on schedule, that kind of news matters. A short-handed Giants group is easier to test on both sides of the ball, especially with Houston looking to take advantage early and avoid letting a patched-together opponent settle in. There is still plenty of football to play, but the opening edge already appears to be tilting toward the Texans. [Read more 🡒]

Texans Fans Need To Watch These Draft Battles This Weekend

Saturdays college slate gives Texans fans a useful scouting window, with three matchups that could help shape Houstons draft board. Edge rusher John Henry Daley against tackle Carter Smith should offer a clean look at how one of the classs pass-rush hopefuls handles a notable blocker, while running back Kewan Lacy getting a crack at the Texas defense brings another layer of evaluation for a team that has shown interest in adding talent wherever value pops up.

Ashton Hampton versus wide receiver QueSean Brown is the kind of cornerback-wideout test that can quietly carry real weight for a front office sorting through late-round and developmental options. The Texans are still in the business of finding difference-makers at premium spots, and these are the sorts of one-on-one battles that can move a player up or down in the eyes of evaluators watching for traits, competitiveness and how prospects respond when the stakes rise.
