In the whirlwind that is the NFL offseason, surprises are the norm, and this year is no exception. The Los Angeles Rams have reportedly been eyeing a blockbuster trade involving Davante Adams and A.J.
Brown. Adams, a five-time Pro-Bowler and two-time All-Pro, just led the league in receiving touchdowns, making this potential move a head-turner.
Financially, the Rams are motivated to act quickly, as a $6 million roster bonus looms for Adams. Without a trade, they’re committed to his $18 million base salary for the upcoming season.
Shifting focus to the Houston Texans, they face their own potential roster shake-up with wide receiver Nico Collins. While no official moves are on the table, Collins' situation highlights the unpredictable nature of the league.
Since being drafted in 2021, Collins has become a cornerstone for Houston, amassing 3,420 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns in the past three seasons. His performance has been pivotal in transforming the Texans into playoff contenders.
So why consider a change? The NFL is a business, and three factors might influence the Texans' decision: financial considerations, Collins' injury history, and emerging talent on the roster.
Financially, Collins' three-year, $72.5 million extension remains team-friendly, but potential savings loom if the Texans decide to cut ties in 2027. Depending on timing, they could save up to $22.1 million.
Injuries have also been a concern. Collins has yet to complete a full season, missing critical games, including a playoff loss against New England. His absence was felt, though it wasn't the sole reason for the defeat.
On the roster, Jayden Higgins, a promising rookie, mirrors Collins' physical attributes and potential. With 525 receiving yards and six touchdowns, Higgins shows the Texans have options should they choose to pivot.
While Collins remains a key player, the business side of the NFL means such discussions are inevitable. For now, he continues to be a vital asset for the Texans, contributing significantly to their success.
