Texans Defense Could Get A Needed Boost Sooner Than Expected

Star linebacker Henry To'oTo'o edges closer to returning to the Texans' defense, offering hope amid a challenging season.

The Texans may be getting a key piece of their defense back sooner than expected.

Nick Caserio said in an interview with 95.7 The Fan before Wednesday’s practice that Houston will open Henry To’oTo’o’s 21-day practice window from injured reserve, a clear sign the starting linebacker is moving toward a return.

To’oTo’o hasn’t played since Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, when a shoulder injury sent him to IR for at least four weeks. That ruled him out through Week 6 at a minimum.

At the time of the injury, the recovery timeline sounded longer than a standard four-week stay. KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reported it could take “a few months” to heal fully.

Now, though, the door is cracking open.

The Texans won’t have to make a decision on To’oTo’o immediately, but the clock is officially ticking. Activating the practice window only means he can begin working back toward game action, with a return expected sometime over the next three games.

That stretch starts with the Jaguars in London in Week 6, continues at home against the Giants in Week 7, and then hits the bye in Week 8 before Houston goes to the Chargers in Week 9. Any of those games could be the target, depending on how To’oTo’o looks in practice over the next 21 days.

If he strings together full practices on consecutive days, that would be a strong signal that his comeback is close. Even so, the bye week could push Houston to be patient and hold him out for the next two games, giving him extra time to rest and get fully ready for Los Angeles.

When healthy, To’oTo’o has been a major part of the Texans’ linebacker group. He has started 36 games over his four years in the building.

In the 2025 season, he posted 95 tackles, nine TFLs, 2.5 sacks, and four passes defended, production that helped earn him a two-year extension before the 2026 season and keeps him under contract through 2028.

For now, the best indicator will be what To’oTo’o does on the practice field. But the signs are pointing in the right direction for Houston to get him back alongside Azeez Al-Shaair as its starting weak-side linebacker soon.

Marvin Harrison Jr. Trade Just Reignited A Cardinals Value Debate

The wide receiver market had been on Kansas Citys radar, but the Chiefs never got to the point of seriously chasing Marvin Harrison Jr. before Arizona dealt him to Houston. Even with Tyquan Thornton and Rashee Rice dealing with injuries, Kansas City did not go all-in to match the Texans offer, and the price quickly became the center of the conversation around how teams valued a player with Harrisons profile.

Houston stepped in with a package of second- and sixth-round picks, and the Cardinals sent Harrison plus a 2027 seventh-round selection to the Texans in return. For the Texans, it is the kind of swing that can reshape a receiver room in a hurry, while for Arizona it leaves open the bigger question of whether the return matched the market for a player of Harrisons stature. Texans May Have Found The Explosive Back C.J. Stroud Needs

Houston has spent enough time searching for more burst in the backfield to know what that kind of addition can mean for C.J. Stroud and the offense. Louisvilles Isaac Brown is starting to look like the sort of runner who can change a game in a hurry, after a Week 6 outing in 2026 that put his speed and open-field quickness on full display. He ripped off 235 yards and two touchdowns, including a 97-yard scoring run, and for a Texans team that still lacks a truly dynamic rushing threat, that skill set stands out.

Browns appeal is obvious because of the way he can stress a defense before the play even develops. Hes viewed as a fast, elusive prospect for the 2027 NFL Draft, with agility as his calling card, even if questions remain about his strength and how well hell handle contact between the tackles. For Houston, pairing a player like that with a power back such as David Montgomery would at least give the offense a different kind of balance, and maybe a little more help for Stroud when the field starts to shrink. C.J. Stroud Just Got Another Chance To Build Texans Momentum

A little roster help arrived for Houston as the Texans activated offensive tackle Braden Smith from injured reserve, giving the offense another piece to work with as the team tries to keep building after finally getting into the win column. The timing matters, too, because the Texans have already made a notable addition in wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. from the Arizona Cardinals, a move that signaled they were not waiting around to stand still.

Now C.J. Stroud gets another chance to build on the momentum from Houstons first victory of the season against the Tennessee Titans, with a divisional meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars up next. For an offense still trying to settle into a rhythm, getting healthier up front and adding more firepower on the outside gives the Texans a better chance to turn one encouraging result into something more lasting.
