NFL personnel have made their feelings on C.J. Stroud pretty clear, and the Houston Texans quarterback did not land near the top of the league’s pecking order.
In ESPN’s latest polling of executives, coaches, and scouts, which asked them to rank the NFL’s top 10 players at each position entering the 2026 season, Stroud didn’t crack the top 10 or even the top 15 at quarterback. He ended up in the “also receiving votes” group, one of the final three names in the top 20.
That puts Stroud alongside Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones, leaving him somewhere in the No. 18 to No. 20 range depending on how the votes were distributed.
The drop is a sharp one from a year ago. In 2025, Stroud was the first honorable mention outside the top 10, finishing just behind Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield.
The slide makes sense when you look at how Stroud’s third season in Houston unfolded. The Texans dealt with an inconsistent run game and offensive line, Stroud missed three games after a concussion, and his year ended with a rough four-interception performance against the New England Patriots in the divisional round.
That finish left his standing lower than it has been since he entered the league, and now he has plenty to prove heading into 2026.
There is still a path back to the conversation. Stroud will have a better supporting cast around him, and he’s entering his second season under offensive coordinator Nick Caley, which should bring more continuity and comfort. He also has contract negotiations on the horizon, and the memory of how last season ended should give him plenty of fuel.
If he rebounds, it could be the kind of season that pushes Houston closer to the Super Bowl chase it wants. If he doesn’t, the noise around him is only going to get louder.

Texans Hype Comes With One Warning Fans Know Too Well
The Texans are drawing plenty of buzz as the season approaches, and it is easy to see why. Houston brings back almost its entire defense, a unit that should keep the team in the contender conversation from the start, while national analysts have slotted the roster among the leagues best heading into the fall. For a team that spent the offseason being treated like a real threat, the foundation is there, and it starts with a group that has the look of a top-tier defense again.
C.J. Stroud is still the hinge point, though, and the excitement around Houston comes with the same familiar warning. The offense needs more help around Nico Collins, better play up front and steadier production across the board if the Texans are going to turn preseason praise into something bigger. With the defense expected to hold up its end, the question hanging over Houston is whether Stroud can match the standard the rest of the roster is setting. [Read more 🡒]
Texans Rookie Woody Marks Hosts Meaningful Camp For Military Kids
Houston running back Joquavious Woody Marks spent part of his offseason giving back in a way that felt personal, hosting a free two-day youth football camp at Phantom Warrior Stadium in Fort Hood. The event was aimed at military children and drew on Marks own upbringing around military life, with the focus extending beyond footwork and drills to the kind of support that can matter just as much to kids who are constantly adapting.
Marks wanted the camp to be a place where military dependents could feel seen, build confidence and connect with one another through shared experiences. About 150 children took part, and the setting fit the message: a football camp built around resilience, community and the understanding that for many of these families, change is part of everyday life.
