J.J. Watt had no interest in letting Real Salt Lake’s social media post slide.
The former Texans star was at a match with his family earlier this week, and the team’s account welcomed only him by name: "Welcome to the Riot, @JJWatt and fam" the post read with a heart-eyes emoji. Watt quickly pointed out that his wife, Kealia Ohai Watt, deserved some recognition too.
"Could probably be worth a mention, but idk."
That response fit Watt’s track record. He’s long been known in Houston not just as a dominant player, but as someone deeply tied to the community. The Texans made him a first-round pick in 2011, and he spent 10 of his 12 NFL seasons in Houston, piling up records and becoming a permanent fan favorite in H-Town.
Kealia Watt has her own résumé that stands on its own. She grew up in Utah, played professionally for the Houston Dash for six seasons, then spent two years with the Chicago Red Stars before retiring in 2022. During her playing career, she earned multiple call-ups to the national team, and she now works with the NWSL on Amazon Prime.
This wasn’t the first time Watt has pushed back when he felt his wife was being overlooked. In 2020, when Kealia was traded to Chicago, she was described in a headline as "J.J. Watt's fiancee".
For Watt, this one was simple: if you’re talking about the family at a soccer match, Kealia Watt deserves to be part of the conversation too.
