DeMeco Ryans Just Gave Texans Fans A Reason To Believe

After clinching their first win of 2026, Texans' head coach DeMeco Ryans emphasizes strategic triumphs and new team dynamics following a decisive victory over the Titans.

The Texans finally have something to build on.

Houston’s 26-3 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 5 gave DeMeco Ryans and company their first victory of the 2026 season, and after the game, the head coach pointed to a cleaner operation, a sharper offense and a defense that took the ball away as the keys to the turnaround.

For Ryans, it started with how his team handled the game from snap to snap.

“It was our execution. We executed really well and controlled the game,” Ryans said about what was different for Texans in Week 5 win.

“Offensively, they did an outstanding job of driving the football down the field. C.J. did an outstanding job of making play after play when we needed it.

He was dealing.”

Stroud’s day drew plenty of praise from his coach, and Ryans made it clear he liked the way the quarterback spread the ball around and kept making smart decisions.

“He was throwing the ball to everyone who was open and making really great decisions with the football. He was able to get a rushing touchdown in there as well.

He's been doing a great job all year, so I'm thankful to celebrate him. He's been leading our offense really well and is very deserving of everything.

Houston’s defense had a different look in Week 5, with Ryans taking over the play-calling duties on that side of the ball. The result was one of the best defensive showings of the year, with Tennessee held to just three points, and Ryans credited the players for making it happen.

“The defense did an outstanding job today, taking the football away,” Ryans said. “Jake Hansen did a great job getting the ball.

Dom Robinson got one out. We were able to recover the fumble.”

“Our d-line--they got after it when we needed them to. They put a lot of pressure on the quarterbacks. Our players did an outstanding job today.”

One player who stood out in a big way was Will Anderson Jr., who piled up three sacks against Cam Ward. Ryans had plenty to say about his edge rusher’s impact.

“Will is our guy,” Ryans said of Anderson's three-sack day. “It's great to see what he's able to do every week. He's a tenacious player, relentless on every single snap.”

“There's no better competitor or person than Will Anderson. To see him go out and dominate the game with three sacks was an outstanding performance.”

The Texans also got Azeez Al-Shaair back in the lineup, and he wasted no time making his presence felt. The Pro Bowl linebacker finished with a game-high 11 tackles, plus one QB hit and a pass defended, and Ryans praised what he brings in the middle of the defense.

“Azeez is our field general and our communicator. He's the man in the middle. When we have him out there, our guys are on the ball and moving fast,” Ryans said.

“Azeez communicates really well, tackles well in the middle and makes the plays he needs to make. I'm really happy to have him back.”

Ryans saved one of the night’s loudest moments for the end of his press conference. After being asked about Marvin Harrison Jr. for the third time, he offered a blunt reveal about a trade that had just gone through.

“You guys want to know, huh? All right.

We traded for Marvin Harrison Jr,” Ryans said. “See ya.”

Ryans also said Harrison Jr. will be in uniform with Houston heading into Week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Titans Had An Even Rougher Day Than Texans Fans Realized

The Texans 26-3 win over Tennessee already stood out for how firmly Houston controlled the game, but one of the more unexpected side notes came from across the field. Cornerback CorDale Flott drew plenty of attention on social media for wearing a notably oversized helmet, turning an ordinary NFL broadcast moment into a running joke as the Titans tried to keep pace in a lopsided game.

Flotts afternoon got even worse after he suffered a chest injury and entered concussion protocol, ending his day and opening the door for Micah Robinson to step in. For Houston, the result was a needed first win to move to 1-4, while Tennessee left NRG Stadium still searching for its first victory at 0-5, with the on-field issues matched by an injury scare that only added to the rough day. Texans Win Came With A Strange Titans Moment Fans Couldn't Ignore

During Tennessees loss to the Texans, one unexpected sidelight had fans doing a double-take: cornerback CorDale Flotts helmet became a topic of jokes on social media. It was the kind of odd in-game detail that briefly cut through the usual division-rival noise, even as the Texans kept control of a game that mattered plenty in the AFC South race.

Flotts night also took a more serious turn when he suffered a chest injury and left the field, opening the door for teammate Micah Robinson to step in. For Tennessee, it was another rough chapter in a season that has opened with five straight losses, while Houston walked away with the win and an extra bit of postgame chatter it probably never expected. Texans Snap Counts Hint At Two Injury-Driven Changes Fans Need To Watch

The Texans Week 5 snap counts against the Titans offered a clearer look at how quickly injuries can reshape a game plan, especially on a roster that is still sorting out roles on the fly. David Montgomery was limited to just nine snaps because of a groin injury, which opened the door for Woody Marks to see more work, while rookie Kayden McDonald made his return from injury and logged 11 snaps as Houston eased him back into the defense.

Jalen Pitres shoulder injury added another wrinkle, with the veteran leaving the game and rookie Kamari Ramsey stepping in to help fill the void. Both Pitre and Montgomery are considered week-to-week, and that leaves the Texans watching a pair of important spots closely as they head into the next stretch, with the snap distribution from Sunday serving as an early clue to how the staff may have to adjust.
