Chiefs Receiver Search Suddenly Matters To Texans Fans For One Reason

The Kansas City Chiefs are exploring seasoned talents for a strategic boost to their injury-plagued lineup, with familiar faces like Justin Watson and Tyreek Hill potentially back in the mix.

The Kansas City Chiefs are digging into familiar territory as they try to shore up a receiver group hit hard by injuries.

With Rashee Rice out because of a hamstring injury and Tyquan Thornton sidelined after dislocating his ankle in the Week 4 win over the Raiders, Kansas City has started weighing its options. One name that has surfaced is Justin Watson, a player who already knows the system and has a history of fitting right into big moments.

According to Pete Sweeney of the Kansas City Star, the Chiefs are among several teams interested in Watson. Sweeney noted the update on October 9 and said the wideout could have more than one landing spot as he looks for his next opportunity.

Watson spent three seasons in Kansas City from 2022 through 2024, and that run lined up with one of the best stretches in franchise history. The Chiefs reached the Super Bowl in each of those three seasons and won back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024. Across 50 games with Kansas City, Watson totaled 64 catches for 1,064 yards and seven touchdowns.

He also made his mark on the biggest stage. Watson played a crucial role in Super Bowl LVIII, hauling in two key fourth-quarter catches as the Chiefs rallied to tie the San Francisco 49ers before winning in overtime.

After leaving Kansas City, Watson spent the 2025 season with the Houston Texans, but they released him during roster cuts in August. A reunion would give the Chiefs a receiver who already understands Andy Reid’s offense and can help in more than one way. His speed downfield and his work as a blocker in the run game both stand out as useful traits while Kansas City sorts through its injury issues.

Watson is not the only former Chief the team has looked into. Kansas City has also checked on Tyreek Hill, though that situation is much murkier. Hill is still recovering from a major knee injury and is also dealing with a civil lawsuit involving his ex-wife, which complicates any potential move.

The Chiefs have at least kicked the tires on both possibilities. For now, though, Watson looks like the cleaner and more familiar answer as Kansas City searches for help at receiver.

Joey Porter Jrs Surprise Cowboys Absence Adds Context To Texans Debut

Joey Porter Jr.s week took an ugly turn before the Cowboys even got to kickoff on Thursday night. After making his Dallas debut in the previous game, the cornerback was ruled inactive against the Buccaneers because of an illness, a setback that left the Cowboys shorthanded in the secondary and pushed more responsibility toward options like Cobie Durant and Ameer Speed.

The absence also changes the backdrop for Porters first run with Dallas, since he had been expected to see more work after that debut against Houston. Instead, the focus shifts to how quickly he can get back on the field and whether the Cowboys can keep sorting through their cornerback rotation while he recovers. [Read more 🡒]

Texans Quietly Sent A Bigger Davis Mills Signal Than Fans Realized

The Texans made a quiet but meaningful adjustment to Davis Mills deal, turning his backup quarterback contract into a little more cap-friendly work for the present. Houston reworked Mills salary structure this week, a move that gives the team extra breathing room now while keeping one eye on the future for a player who has remained a steady part of the quarterback room.

Mills is still set to hit unrestricted free agency after the 2026 season, but the nature of this restructure hints the Texans may not view him as a short-term placeholder only. By creating room this year and pushing some of the accounting down the line, Houston opened the door to a longer arrangement, even if the club has not yet made that commitment public. [Read more 🡒]

C.J. Stroud Just Raised Texans Hopes For Tank Dells Return

C.J. Stroud gave the Texans a much-needed lift in tone this week by signaling that Tank Dell is getting close to rejoining the offense. Houston is still hunting its first win at 0-4, and the timing matters, because the passing game could use another dynamic target as the season starts to press on.

Stroud also spoke highly of Kayshon Boutte, praising the receivers progress and reliability, which suggests the Texans are trying to piece together more trust around their quarterback while waiting for reinforcements. Dells path back has been long, and his return would give Houston a proven playmaker at a moment when every bit of offensive help carries extra weight. [Read more 🡒]
