C.J. Stroud Sees One Big Challenge For Texans New Weapon

C.J. Stroud eagerly anticipates the dynamic potential Marvin Harrison Jr. brings to the Texans' offense after their recent acquisition.

C.J. Stroud is looking forward to getting Marvin Harrison Jr. into the Texans’ offense, and he isn’t hiding how strongly he feels about the former Ohio State receiver’s ceiling.

Houston’s quarterback, who knows Harrison from their college days together, said the new addition brings the kind of skill set that can change a passing game. Stroud pointed to Harrison’s route running, hands and overall presence as reasons he believes the wideout can make an immediate impact in a new setting.

"Yeah, I think he brings a dynamic playmaker, somebody who runs great routes, can catch really any ball," Stroud said. "And I'm just super excited to get with him, I loved him in college."

Stroud’s confidence in Harrison goes beyond what he does with the ball in the air. He also praised the receiver’s work habits and the way he carries himself away from football, describing traits that should help him fit into Houston’s locker room.

"He's probably the hardest worker I've ever been around in my life, and then just who he is off the field," Stroud said. "He's a great dude, a quiet guy, but definitely, you feel his presence."

Harrison comes to Houston after starring at Ohio State and being selected fourth overall in the 2024 NFL draft. The Texans now have a receiver with the kind of route-running ability and ball skills that could give Stroud another dangerous option in the passing game.

At the same time, Stroud is not interested in piling expectations on him right away. He said the best thing for Harrison is to settle in, learn the offense and get comfortable in his new environment.

"I think it's perfect for him, I think fresh starts are good," Stroud said. "So I'm excited to get him with us."

That patient approach is part of how Stroud sees the bigger picture. He made it clear that he prefers to take things one step at a time rather than getting caught up in pressure from the outside.

"I'm not an expectation type of person when it comes to others or even myself," Stroud said. "I think I'm a one thing at a time, the next thing I'm focused on is getting these things corrected from this game."

For now, Harrison’s job is straightforward: get to Houston, pick up the playbook and start building chemistry with his quarterback. Stroud believes the talent is already there, and if Harrison stays true to himself, he thinks the ceiling is high.

"If he's himself, he's gonna be one of the best receivers," Stroud said. "I think he got drafted where he got drafted for a reason, and I think he'll be able to show that."

Houston now adds another intriguing piece to its offense, and Stroud’s belief in Harrison makes the move feel even more promising. The next step is turning that confidence into production on the field.

Texans Pass Rush Just Got A Huge Opening Vs Jaguars

A major question mark just opened up for Jacksonville heading into its Week 6 meeting with the Texans in London. Jaguars left tackle Anton Harrison is expected to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery, and the timeline could keep him out for 3-5 weeks, with the possibility of a season-ending outcome still on the table.

For Houston, the timing matters. The Texans already have a strong defensive line, and now they may face a Jaguars front that has to adjust without one of its key edge protectors. However the Jaguars sort out the spot, the left side of their line will be under immediate scrutiny against a Texans pass rush that should see this as a chance to tilt the matchup. [Read more 🡒]

Texans Landed Marvin Harrison Jr As Strange Cardinals Rift Emerges

Houston spent part of the offseason looking to add more punch to its passing game, and now it has a major name to build around. Marvin Harrison Jr. is officially headed to the Texans from Arizona in a deal that sends a second-round pick and additional Day 3 selections to the Cardinals, a move that gives Houston a high-profile target with plenty still left to prove after a quieter second season in the desert.

For Arizona, the trade closes a tense chapter that never seemed to settle into the expected rhythm. Harrisons production dipped in year two, and the backdrop around his time with the Cardinals included a reported disagreement over a workout machine purchase, one of those odd little details that can take on outsized meaning when a relationship starts to fray. Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort thanked Harrison in a statement and wished him well, while Houston now gets to see whether a fresh start can unlock the player both sides envisioned. Texans May Have A Long Term WR Target Worth Watching

Houstons wide receiver room has been taking plenty of hits, and that makes the long view around the position worth tracking a little more closely than usual. One name already standing out in that conversation is Jeremiah Smith, the Ohio State receiver who has quickly become one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2027 NFL Draft conversation.

Smith is leading the Buckeyes in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns, and evaluators are pointing to the kind of size, speed and route-running skill set that can translate to the next level. For a Texans team still working through instability and injuries at receiver, he looks like the sort of player worth keeping on the radar well before draft season really starts to heat up.
