The original Comets were part of the WNBA's inaugural eight teams in 1997 and quickly set a high bar by clinching four consecutive championships from 1997 to 2000. Cynthia Cooper emerged as a trailblazer, securing four straight Finals MVP titles, two league MVPs, and consistently leading her team to victory during those championship runs. Despite their dominance, the Comets folded in 2008 due to ownership challenges and a lack of buyers.
Fast forward to today, the Comets are gearing up for a fresh start, thanks to a pivotal deal involving the sale of the Connecticut Sun to Tilman Fertitta, who also owns the Rockets.
