Kevin Durant isn’t pretending to have the answer to the biggest LeBron James question hanging over the league right now.
The Houston Rockets forward, who has built a close relationship with James, said he has no clue where the NBA’s all-time leading scorer will land in free agency. But Durant was clear about one thing: no matter what uniform James ends up wearing, he expects him to keep producing at a high level.
James, 41, could make his decision public this week as the noise around his future keeps building. He is scheduled to record a podcast on Thursday and then shoot a show on Friday at Fanatics Fest in New York, which has fueled plenty of speculation that an announcement could be coming during that stretch.
Durant will be at Fanatics Fest too, though he was elsewhere on Tuesday, taking in the MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia. NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark spoke with him there and asked about James’ situation, among other topics.
Durant didn’t offer any insight into where James might go, but he did make his belief in James’ remaining game unmistakable.
“Wherever he goes, I know he's going to ball out and show that he still got a lot left in the tank at 42 years old,” said Durant.
“Any team is going to be better because of him.”
As for Houston, the Rockets have not been seriously tied to James, with the front office appearing focused on its young core instead.
James, meanwhile, already crossed paths with Houston in a meaningful way this spring. He led the Los Angeles Lakers past the Rockets in the first round of the playoffs in May.

Kevin Durant Just Addressed The Rockets Rumor Fans Feared Most
Kevin Durant spent part of MLB All-Star week in Philadelphia talking basketball, and the conversation naturally drifted to the kind of roster movement that keeps the NBA in constant motion. Speaking with NBCS, Durant showed respect for the citys fans, calling them passionate and treating the trash talk as part of the fun, while also sizing up the 76ers as a more dangerous team after Jaylen Browns arrival.
For Houston, the more relevant part of the exchange was Durant acknowledging that his own name still lives in the rumor mill. He did not sound alarmed by the noise, and the message around the Rockets remains the same: unless something truly franchise-altering materializes, the expectation is that Durant stays put while the rest of the league keeps guessing about the next big move. Kevin Durant Just Went After Two Major NBA Voices
Kevin Durant has never been shy about pushing back at the media, and his latest round of criticism landed on two of the NBAs most recognizable voices. The exchange fits a familiar pattern for Durant, who has repeatedly shown he is willing to answer back when he thinks the conversation around him or the league goes too far.
The backdrop matters because this is not an isolated flare-up. Durant has sparred with Stephen A. Smith before, and Smith even responded with a warning on his show after one of those clashes. With Durant now taking aim at more analysts, the tension between superstar players and the people paid to dissect them is once again front and center. [Read more 🡒]
