Kingston Flemings Stuns as Freshman Earns All-America Honors

Kingston Flemings makes history for University of Houston Basketball as the first freshman to earn All-America honors, shining as a powerhouse on the court in his debut season.

Kingston Flemings: A Rising Star at Houston

HOUSTON - Kingston Flemings, the University of Houston's standout freshman point guard, has just added another accolade to his burgeoning collection. Recognized by The Sporting News, Flemings has been named to the All-America Second Team, marking a historic moment as the first freshman in program history to earn such honors.

Head Coach Kelvin Sampson couldn't be prouder of Flemings, stating, "Kingston came here with a maturity and a passion for competing. He absolutely loves to play basketball.

He is one of the best teammates and one of the greatest kids. Everything about off the court reflects everything he does on the court."

This recognition is just the latest in a series of accolades for Flemings. He's also a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, which honors the nation's top collegiate point guard, and was a unanimous choice for both the All-Big 12 Conference Team and the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.

Joining Flemings on the Second Team are Thomas Haugh (Florida), Braden Smith (Purdue), Keaton Wagler (Illinois), and JT Toppin (Texas Tech). The First Team features stars like Yaxel Lendeborg (Michigan) and Cameron Boozer (Duke).

Flemings' achievement places him in elite company, following in the footsteps of Houston legends like Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon, who were recognized as sophomores.

Kingston Flemings' Stellar Season

In his debut collegiate season, Flemings has quickly established himself as one of the nation's premier talents. Averaging 16.5 points, 5.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, he’s been a key player for the Cougars, shooting an impressive 48.3% from the field and 37.6% from three-point range.

Flemings has led the team with 11 games scoring 20 or more points this season, including a remarkable 42-point performance against Texas Tech, setting a school freshman record. This feat surpassed the previous record held by Rob Williams since 1980.

With 510 points this season, Flemings has already broken the Houston freshman single-season scoring record, previously set by Williams. As the Cougars gear up for postseason action, Flemings is just ahead of Williams' freshman scoring average.

In a thrilling 69-65 victory over Texas Tech, Flemings showcased his clutch abilities, scoring nine points in the final minutes and contributing across the board with assists and rebounds.

Earlier in the season, his 22-point, seven-assist performance against Auburn earned him the USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week honors, as well as Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Week titles.

Before joining Houston, Flemings had a stellar high school career at Brennan High School in San Antonio, Texas.
