Houston has landed a late roster addition in former Texas guard Chendall Weaver, who is headed to the Cougars after receiving an extra year of eligibility in court.
Per reports from On3’s Joe Tipton, Weaver has committed to Houston for the upcoming season. The Mansfield, Texas native spent the past three years at Texas and will close out his college career in Houston.
There was a path for Weaver to return to Texas, but Longhorns head coach Sean Miller said the program no longer had any scholarship spots available. That opened the door for Houston to step in and add a player with NCAA Tournament experience who fits neatly into Kelvin Sampson’s style.
Weaver’s college journey started at UT-Arlington before he transferred to Texas ahead of the 2023-24 season under then-head coach Rodney Terry. Over three seasons with the Longhorns, he appeared in 93 games and made 17 starts while averaging 6.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game.
He also logged seven NCAA Tournament games at Texas. In the 2023-24 Round of 32 matchup with Tennessee, Weaver scored 13 points and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. This past season, he turned in an 11-point, 10-rebound, two-steal performance against NC State in the First Four.
The box score doesn’t fully capture what Weaver brings. His game is built on relentless effort, quick reactions and athletic pop. He gets to loose balls first, plays with nonstop pace and has the kind of vertical burst that shows up in both highlight dunks and chase-down blocks.
Offensively, he may not be the flashiest piece on the floor, but his toughness is exactly what makes him such a clean fit for Sampson and Houston’s program. It would not be a surprise if he becomes a quick favorite with Cougars fans once the season gets going.

Houston opened fall camp with about a month left before its 2026 season opener, and the first notable wrinkle came at wide receiver.
