But with those negotiations stalling, signing Conforto might be their best move.
Conforto's recent performance with the Dodgers was far from his best. Last season, he posted a .199/.305/.333 slash line with 12 homers and 36 RBIs over 128 games, marking the lowest point in his decade-long MLB career. His struggles meant he didn't make the postseason roster, which could make him a bargain for the Astros given his diminished market value.
Isaac Paredes presents a bit of a puzzle for Houston as they gear up for the new season. His offensive skills are crucial, yet he's currently limited to a designated hitter role due to the infield setup. This situation raises the possibility that Paredes might not be on the Opening Day roster.
At spring training in West Palm Beach, Paredes expressed his focus on what he can control, saying through an interpreter, “I only control what I do on the field. That’s the part I’m focused on.
Whatever they’re going to do, that’s out of my control. That’s what leadership and management is going to do.”
Last year, despite injuries limiting him to 102 games, Paredes delivered a solid performance with a .254/.352/.458 slash line, 20 home runs, and a 123 OPS+, contributing 2.3 bWAR. The Astros recently signed him to a one-year, $9.35 million contract, including a $13.35 million club option that turns into a player option if he finishes in the top 10 in MVP voting.
