The Vikings’ travel plans hit an unexpected snag Saturday night, just hours before their Week 16 showdown with the Giants at MetLife Stadium. Minnesota’s team flight had to turn around shortly after takeoff from the Twin Cities due to mechanical issues, delaying their arrival in New Jersey.
According to the team, the plane returned safely to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, and the Vikings quickly arranged for a second aircraft to get them to Newark later in the evening. Cornerback Isaiah Rodgers reassured fans via social media that everyone on board - players, coaches, and staff - was safe and accounted for.
While the delay isn’t ideal, especially this late in the season, it’s unlikely to throw off the Vikings’ game-day routine too dramatically. Teams are used to adapting on the fly - literally and figuratively - and with kickoff set for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Minnesota should have enough time to regroup and refocus.
The Vikings, sitting at 6-8 and officially out of playoff contention, are still playing with pride. They’ve rattled off back-to-back wins against the Commanders and Cowboys, showing resilience in a season that hasn’t gone according to plan. Sunday’s matchup against the Giants marks the first of three final tests to close out the 17-game slate, with divisional clashes against Detroit and Green Bay looming in Weeks 17 and 18.
While the postseason is off the table, there’s still plenty on the line - from evaluating young talent to setting the tone for 2026. And despite the travel hiccup, expect Minnesota to come out ready to compete.
