Skyy Moore didn’t need long to notice the difference when he walked into Packers training camp.
The newest Green Bay receiver, who signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal in March, said the setting immediately reminded him of college. Moore, a former Western Michigan standout and two-time Super Bowl winner with the Kansas City Chiefs, said the atmosphere in Green Bay caught him off guard in a good way.
“It’s like a college-type vibe. I never got to play at a big college but it felt like I go to Ohio State or something,” Moore said, via Weston Hodkiewicz of the Packers’ website on X.
That first impression comes as Green Bay is looking for help in a specific area: special teams. The Packers finished last in the league overall in the 2025 NFL season with just 5.6 yards per punt return, and they ranked 22nd with a 25.2-yard average on kickoff returns.
Moore arrives with a chance to change that. Green Bay’s need grew after Romeo Doubs left for the New England Patriots, leaving the team searching for new options in the return game. Doubs and Matthew Golden had been the Packers’ main punt-return choices in 2025.
The Packers are betting Moore can fill that role after what he did with the 49ers. Drafted by the Chiefs in the second round in 2022, Moore spent three seasons in Kansas City before being traded to San Francisco in the summer of 2025. It was there that he made his biggest impact as a return man, finishing sixth in the league with 27.5 yards per kick return.
