Packers WR Linked to Rodgers Reunion With Steelers in 2026 Move

With roster changes looming in Green Bay, a familiar target could be on the move-potentially setting up a high-profile reunion in Pittsburgh.

The Green Bay Packers are heading into a pivotal offseason with several key decisions to make - and a handful of players who likely won't be suiting up in green and gold next season. Among those on their way out is offensive tackle Rasheed Walker, whose future with the team appears all but sealed after a rocky 2025 campaign capped off by an arrest earlier this month at a New York airport for having a gun in his luggage. On the field, his performance didn’t do him any favors either, and with Jordan Morgan projected to take over as the starting left tackle in 2026, the Packers seem ready to move on.

But Walker isn’t the only member of the 2022 draft class whose time in Green Bay may be up. Wide receiver Romeo Doubs - who actually led the team in both receptions and receiving yards last season - is also facing an uncertain future with the franchise.

Despite his production, the writing may be on the wall. The Packers invested draft capital in two promising young receivers, Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, in 2025, and Christian Watson is expected to return healthy.

That’s a crowded room, and it’s hard to see where Doubs fits into the long-term picture.

Doubs entered the league in 2022, the final season of Aaron Rodgers’ long tenure as the Packers’ starting quarterback. As a rookie, Doubs showed flashes, finishing the year with 42 catches for 425 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games. Rodgers clearly trusted him - the veteran QB posted a 95.7 passer rating when targeting the then-rookie.

Now, as Doubs hits free agency, there’s already buzz about where he might land next - and one team that makes a lot of sense is Pittsburgh. With Mike McCarthy now at the helm, the Steelers are expected to put more emphasis on offensive firepower, especially after finishing 20th in EPA per play last season.

They already have D.K. Metcalf as a WR1, but they’re in the market for a reliable complementary option - and Doubs could be a fit.

According to Pro Football Focus, Doubs has quietly built a solid résumé over the last three seasons. His 78.6 receiving grade reflects a consistent ability to contribute, and since 2024, he’s ranked in the 75th percentile in receiving grade against single coverage - a key metric for outside receivers who need to win one-on-one battles. At 25 years old, Doubs still has upside, and his experience in McCarthy’s style of offense could ease the transition.

There’s also the intriguing (though far from certain) possibility of a reunion with Aaron Rodgers. While Rodgers isn’t currently under contract with Pittsburgh for 2026 and is still weighing retirement, the door isn’t completely closed. If the Steelers do bring him back, having a familiar target like Doubs could be a smart move to help stabilize the offense.

For now, nothing is set in stone. But what’s clear is that Doubs’ time in Green Bay may be coming to an end - and if he does find a new home in Pittsburgh, he could be walking into a situation where his skill set is not just welcomed, but needed.
