Packers Weigh Trading Josh Jacobs During NFL Draft

Packers' strategic moves could shake up their roster as the 2026 NFL Draft looms, with star running back Josh Jacobs at the center of trade talks.

Josh Jacobs has been a cornerstone of the Packers’ offense since he joined the team, but the veteran running back's tenure in Green Bay might be nearing its end.

At 28, Jacobs put up 929 rushing yards last season, with a solid average of four yards per carry. However, as the NFL Draft looms, Packers’ GM Brian Gutekunst might see Jacobs as more valuable on the trade block than on the field.

Potential Trade: Josh Jacobs on the Move?

Pro Football Focus analyst Jon Kosko recently highlighted each team’s top trade asset with the draft approaching, and Jacobs tops the list for the Packers.

Kosko notes, “Green Bay’s strategy has sometimes overly relied on the run game. Despite having an elite quarterback, they ranked 12th in early-down run rate in 2025, often choosing the ground game over more efficient passing options.”

Jacobs has been a powerhouse, boasting a 91.8 PFF rushing grade, placing him fourth among running backs. Even at 28, his value on the trade market could be significant if the Packers decide to pivot towards a more pass-heavy offense.

While head coach Matt LaFleur’s system emphasizes the run, trading Jacobs could mean more responsibility for quarterback Jordan Love and the passing game. But if the right offer comes along, acquiring draft capital could be a smart move. Without a first-round pick, the Packers could use additional selections to bring in a fresh, young running back, helping manage cap space and reduce wear and tear for the next four years.
