The Green Bay Packers are on the hunt for reinforcements at cornerback, and they've got a few avenues to explore this offseason. With the 2026 NFL Draft on the horizon, their best shot might be snagging a promising cornerback in the second round.
The Packers are without a first-round pick this year, thanks to the trade that brought Micah Parsons to Green Bay. So, their first opportunity to pick comes at No. 52 overall.
But there's another intriguing option that Packers GM Brian Gutekunst might want to keep in mind-re-signing cornerback Trevon Diggs. Diggs had a brief stint with the Packers last season, appearing in just two games after being released by the Dallas Cowboys.
The Packers released Diggs post-season due to the hefty contract they inherited when they picked him up on waivers. Originally, Diggs had inked a five-year, $97 million deal in 2023, but with no guaranteed money left, cutting him saved the Packers $15.5 million in cap space. However, Gutekunst hasn't closed the door on bringing Diggs back.
"I wouldn't shut the door on anything," Gutekunst mentioned about Diggs. "As we navigate through the draft, we're always looking for ways to improve the team."
Trevon Diggs could indeed be a valuable asset for the Packers in 2026. While he may not be the same player who earned consecutive Pro Bowl selections and a first-team All-Pro nod with the Cowboys in 2021 and 2022, Diggs still brings a veteran savvy and a knack for making plays.
Has he slowed down a bit? Perhaps. But at 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, Diggs remains a formidable athlete who could significantly bolster the Packers' defense under new coordinator Jonathan Gannon.
Moreover, Diggs shares a strong friendship with star pass-rusher Micah Parsons, adding another layer of appeal to his potential return. With the possibility of securing him on a team-friendly deal, it makes perfect sense for the Packers to consider bringing Diggs back into the fold.
According to Spotrac, Diggs' market value is estimated at around $7 million for a one-year contract. The Packers might even negotiate a better deal as the 2026 season approaches, making this a move worth watching.
