Packers Suddenly Linked to Four-Time Pro Bowler After Playoff Shakeup

With a critical need at cornerback and a star potentially hitting the market, the Packers may be closer than ever to a game-changing addition.

After a tough playoff exit at the hands of the rival Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers entered the offseason with a few pressing questions-and they wasted no time addressing them.

First up was the future of head coach Matt LaFleur. The organization opted to stay the course, bringing LaFleur back for another season.

But stability at the top didn’t mean the Packers were done making big decisions. Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who had been a key piece of the staff, accepted the head coaching job with the Miami Dolphins, leaving a major vacancy on the defensive side of the ball.

Green Bay moved quickly to fill it, hiring former Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon to take over the defense. It's a move that’s already sparked debate among fans-some optimistic about Gannon’s aggressive style, others skeptical given his uneven tenure in Arizona.

Regardless of where you stand, the Packers now have their major coaching pieces in place. Smaller staff tweaks could still come, but the heavy lifting on the sidelines appears done.

Now the focus shifts to the roster-and there’s plenty of work ahead. Green Bay has close to 25 players set to hit free agency, and how the front office handles that list will shape the direction of the offseason. Add in the potential for outside additions, and the Packers are staring down a pivotal few months.

One area of concern that’s hard to ignore: the cornerback room.

The trio of Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, and Nate Hobbs struggled to hold things down in 2025. While it wasn’t the worst secondary in the league, it also wasn’t close to what a contending team needs-especially in today’s pass-heavy NFL. The Packers even turned to Trevon Diggs late in the year, a sign of how urgent the situation became.

So where does that leave them now? Free agency is one route. But the trade market could offer a more immediate-and potentially higher-upside-solution.

Enter Marlon Humphrey.

The Baltimore Ravens cornerback has been floated as a “dream” trade target for the Packers, and it’s not hard to see why. Despite a down year by his standards-his 42.9 PFF coverage grade ranked 112th out of 114 eligible corners-Humphrey still managed to snag four interceptions and showed flashes of the player who earned First-Team All-Pro honors just a season prior.

And that’s the thing: Humphrey’s 2025 campaign might’ve looked rough on paper, but it wasn’t without its bright spots. His 78.9 run-defense grade ranked ninth among corners, and his 63.5 pass-rush grade slotted him into the top 30. That kind of versatility still holds real value, especially for a Packers defense that could use more physicality and veteran presence in the secondary.

Of course, the financials are significant. Humphrey carries a $27.28 million cap hit in 2026, which isn’t exactly small change.

But there’s a wrinkle here. If new Ravens head coach Jesse Minter decides to part ways with the veteran corner, Baltimore could save $19 million by cutting him after June 1.

That opens the door for the Packers to potentially swoop in and sign him without giving up draft capital-if they’re willing to wait.

Whether it’s via trade or free agency, Humphrey represents the kind of move that could reshape Green Bay’s secondary. He’s a proven playmaker, a physical presence, and a player with something to prove after a tough season. For a Packers team looking to take the next step, that’s a gamble worth considering.
