The Green Bay Packers are heading into Thursday Night Football with another hit to an already battered offensive line, and this one lands right at the center of everything.
After the loss to the Detroit Lions, the Packers got troubling news on Jacob Monk’s quad. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported that “Jacob Monk (quad) goes to IR and Mekhi Becton Sr. signed to the active roster from the practice squad.” That update comes after Green Bay already watched both of its centers leave the game against Detroit.
Sean Rhyan went down first on the opening drive when Josh Jacobs landed on the back of his legs. Monk then stepped in at center, but his night didn’t last either because of the quad injury. With the Packers on a short week, that leaves the door open for another emergency option.
That responsibility fell to John Williams against the Lions, and he was making his NFL debut while doing it. He was suddenly thrown into a critical spot and had to manage a difficult situation for the line.
“I can’t say enough about the job John Williams did, coming in in a hostile environment, handling the operation, the communication. To lose two guys at center that quickly in the game was a little terrifying, but I thought he did a really good job,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur.
Now Williams has a little more time to get ready if he’s needed again when Green Bay meets the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football. The bigger issue for the Packers is that the offensive line has spent much of the season fighting through injuries, and the team is still looking for a combination that can hold up.

Packers Loss Fueled A Ref Debate Fans Wont Let Go
The Packers 20-17 loss to Detroit was decided by Jake Bates game-winning field goal, but the final score only told part of the story. The afternoon also turned into a showcase for officiating debate, with the game marked by a string of controversial flags, including roughing-the-passer calls against Green Bay and an unnecessary roughness penalty on the Lions that kept drawing attention throughout the broadcast.
Tom Brady added to the noise from the Fox booth, pushing back hard on several of the rulings and making it clear he did not agree with how the game was being officiated. Lions Win Sparked A Postgame NFL Reaction Packers Fans Hated
Frustration spilled well beyond the final whistle after Green Bays 20-17 loss to Detroit, with Xavier McKinney taking aim at the officiating and making clear he was willing to risk a fine if it meant saying what he thought. Packers Loss To Lions Sparks A Frustrated Micah Parsons Response
Green Bays 20-17 loss to Detroit left the Packers with more than a tough result to digest. A walk-off field goal ended the game after the Lions benefited from a roughing-the-passer penalty, and the finish only added to the frustration around a night when Green Bay also left points on the field with two missed field goals and a costly interception by Jordan Love.
Even while rehabbing a knee injury and not playing, Micah Parsons made his displeasure clear afterward on social media, a reaction that fit the mood around a game the Packers let get away. The officiating call became the flash point, but it landed against a backdrop of missed chances that made an already painful division loss feel even harder to swallow. [Read more 🡒]
