Packers Suddenly Have A D-Line Decision That Could Matter Fast

As the Packers bolster their defensive line with ex-Patriot Isaiah Iton following Javon Hargrave's injury, their recent dominance over the Bears marks a promising start ahead of tough upcoming games.

The Packers are wasting no time trying to patch up the middle of their defense after losing Javon Hargrave for the season.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Green Bay brought in former Patriots defensive tackle Isaiah Iton for a workout on Sunday and had him take a physical as the team looks for help up front. Schultz wrote, “The Packers, after losing DT Javon Hargrave to a torn Achilles on Sunday, had former Patriots DT Isaiah Iton for a workout today and had him take a physical, per source. Green Bay is scanning the market for DT help.”

Iton’s path to this moment has been a winding one. He played college football at Rutgers, went unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft, then spent time on the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad before landing with the Patriots. New England signed him in July, then waived him because of injury in September.

The move comes as Green Bay tries to steady a defensive line hit by Hargrave’s season-ending Achilles injury. The Packers have been active in trying to protect that area of the roster, and the need is obvious after what they just did to the Bears.

Matt LaFleur’s team rolled to a 31-7 win in Week 5, holding Ben Johnson’s Chicago offense to just seven points and 246 total yards. Lukas Van Ness and the rest of the Packers’ Jonathan Gannon led defense helped set the tone in a game many believed LaFleur took personally.

Now the schedule turns fast. The Packers host the Cowboys in Week 6, then head to Detroit in Week 7 for what looks like a tough road test after the Lions’ Week 5 win over the Cardinals. Green Bay could use every bit of extra help it can find as the season goes on, especially with the Cowboys coming first and record-setting running back Jahmyr Gibbs still looming on the schedule.

Packers Rookie Adds New Fuel To Bears Rivalry After Blowout

The buildup to Packers-Bears had already taken on an edge before kickoff, and rookie Dani Dennis-Sutton helped underline just how personal it felt in Green Bays locker room. Speaking ahead of the game, he acknowledged the intensity of the rivalry and the tension surrounding the coaching staffs, while making it clear he was not going to repeat the private details of those conversations.

What mattered most, of course, was the response on the field. Green Bay backed up the chatter with a 31-7 win, answering remarks from Bears coach Ben Johnson in a way that fit the rivalrys long memory and short fuse, even if Dennis-Sutton left the exact contents of those coach-to-coach exchanges in-house. Packers Fans May Need To Wait Longer For Micah Parsons

Micah Parsons return remains on hold as the Packers move through another week without their pass-rush centerpiece, and the timing is starting to make the calendar itself part of the story. Green Bay had hoped to get its former Cowboys star back sometime in October as he continues recovering from a torn ACL, but the first chance to see him against Dallas in Week 6 now appears to be off the table.

Parsons arrived in Green Bay after being traded from Dallas in 2025 and quickly became the clubs sack leader before the injury stopped his momentum. For a defense that has already felt the absence, the bigger question is how long the wait will last, because the comeback window may be pushing deeper into the fall than anyone around the team wanted. Packers Ceiling Suddenly Looks Higher After What Happened In Chicago

The Packers left Chicago with more than a lopsided win, because a 31-7 rout of the Bears offered a clear glimpse of what this group can look like when pieces start falling into place. Green Bay moved to 3-2 and got another encouraging sign from a defense that forced five takeaways even while missing key players, giving the afternoon a feel that went beyond just a division victory.

MarShawn Lloyd was part of that boost, and his role in the backfield added another layer to a team that suddenly looks as if its ceiling is rising. Lloyd sounded upbeat about where the Packers are headed and what the next wave of help could mean for a defense already playing with confidence, especially with linebacker Micah Parsons expected back soon.
