Packers Suddenly Have A Camp Concern They Cant Ignore

The Green Bay Packers are actively seeking reinforcements as they navigate early training camp setbacks, signaling their commitment to overcoming last season's challenges.

The Packers are already dealing with a camp complication, and it has pushed them to look beyond the current roster for help.

With training camp underway this week, Green Bay is trying to get ready for the 2026 NFL season after an injury-heavy 2025 that ended in the Wild Card round with an ugly collapse against the divisional rival Chicago Bears on the road. One of the first issues to surface this summer involves long snapper Matt Orzech, who is sidelined with a calf injury.

“LaFleur says the Packers are working out some long snappers with Matt Orzech (calf) out,” reported Zach Kruse of The Packers Wire on X, formerly Twitter.

That move fits the moment. Long snapper is one of those jobs that barely gets noticed until something goes wrong, but it can swing field position in a hurry on punts. With Orzech unavailable, Green Bay is bringing in extra legs to cover the spot for now.

Orzech is also among the Packers players on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list, alongside star pass rusher Micah Parsons. Parsons is still working back from a late-season torn ACL he suffered last year in a game against the Denver Broncos. That injury hit just as the Packers’ season began to unravel after a fast start, and the expectation is that he could return sometime in the early part of the upcoming campaign.

Green Bay is set to open the season on September 13 with a road game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Packers Newcomer Had One Nervous First Impression At Training Camp

Zaire Franklins first day at Packers training camp had a little more scenery than the average veteran arrival. The linebacker, acquired from the Colts in March in exchange for Colby Wooden and later signed to a two-year, $18.01 million reworked deal, showed up by bike for his first session with Green Bay and took in the moment as he settled into his new surroundings.

It was a small first impression, but an important one for a player the Packers are counting on to help stabilize the defense. With Micah Parsons expected to miss several games, Franklins role looms larger right away, which makes even the early camp details worth watching as he gets comfortable in a new place and a bigger spotlight. Packers Camp Setback Hits Fringe Receiver At The Worst Time

The Packers wide receiver competition already looked crowded in training camp, and Brenden Rice needed every healthy rep he could get to stay in the mix. With Matthew Golden, Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Savion Williams and likely Skyy Moore positioned ahead of him, the battle for the last spot was always going to be a grind for the former undrafted free agent.

Rices path gets even steeper after landing on the non-football injury list early in camp, a setback that arrives at exactly the wrong time for a player trying to carve out a role. Green Bay still has a handful of names jockeying for one remaining opening, including J. Michael Sturdivant, Will Shepard, Isaiah Neyer and Bo Melton, so every missed practice only tightens the margin for error. [Read more 🡒]

Skyy Moores First Packers Impression Says Plenty About This Opportunity

Skyy Moores first days in Packers training camp have already underscored why Green Bay brought him in on a one-year deal. The former Chiefs and 49ers receiver is in line to help a special teams group that needs a lift after key returners moved on, and the Packers are clearly looking for steadier production in the punt and kickoff game as camp gets rolling.

Moores path gives Green Bay a reason to believe there is more here than just a depth addition. His time in San Francisco showed he can handle return work, and the Packers are giving him a real chance to carve out a role while he settles into a new system and a new locker room. The early impression is simple enough: this is the kind of opportunity that can turn a roster spot into something bigger if he makes the most of it. [Read more 🡒]
