The Packers already have one eye on Tucker Kraft’s comeback, but another tight end question has quietly become just as pressing in Green Bay.
Luke Musgrave is dealing with a neck injury from the offseason workout program, and Brian Gutekunst’s update on Thursday didn’t exactly suggest a quick return. The Packers general manager said the team is in a holding pattern with the former Oregon State standout.
“There’s a waiting time that we have to go through here, so it’s not like something that we’re checking on every day. It’s something where we have to get through a certain time before we can look at that and see where we’re at.
We got a little time to go here,” Gutekunst said of Musgrave, via Jason B. Hirschhorn of The Leap.
That was about as much as Gutekunst offered, but the message was clear enough: Musgrave is going to need more time before Green Bay can really assess where he stands.
The timing matters for the 25-year-old, who is staring at a pivotal 2026 season. Musgrave has not yet put together the kind of NFL breakout that matches the investment Green Bay made when it selected him in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He actually came off the board before Kraft, who waited until the next round to hear his name called by the Packers.
Musgrave is also in the final year of his rookie contract, which only adds to the uncertainty around his future.
Through 35 games in the league, he has 65 catches, 87 targets, 649 receiving yards and one touchdown.
