Josh Jacobs’ legal situation took another turn this week, with the Packers running back now facing reduced charges after his May arrest.
According to a post on X by Tom Pelissero, “The Brown County District Attorney has formally charged Packers RB Josh Jacobs with two misdemeanors related to his May arrest. Originally booked on five charges, including felony strangulation, Jacobs now faces reduced charges of misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property. The NFL has been monitoring all developments in the matter, which remains under review.”
Jacobs, 28, is in his seventh season and joined Green Bay from the Raiders in 2024. He made an immediate impact in his first year with the Packers, rushing for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns. Last season, he finished with 929 rushing yards and 13 scores.
He has remained available to practice and play since the arrest, but any discipline would fall under the league’s Personal Conduct Policy. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said earlier this week that the team has already planned for that possibility, according to a post on X by Jason B. Hirschhorn.

A suspension still appears to be on the table. As Denny Carter wrote, “ESPN’s Adam Schefter said in August that the league would likely suspend Jacobs, though the length of the suspension had yet to be determined,” and MarShawn Lloyd would likely step into the lead role if Jacobs is out for regular-season games. Carter also noted that Lloyd, who has dealt with injuries in the past and is currently dealing with a lingering groin issue for Jacobs, has stayed healthy this offseason and has reportedly looked strong in training camp and joint practices.
Lloyd handled most of the first-team offensive snaps in the Packers’ recent preseason game against the Broncos.
