The Green Bay Packers don’t look short on skill talent. Jordan Love should have plenty to work with, and while the team could use a little more depth at running back and maybe some insurance at tight end, the bigger issue sits right in front of him.
The offensive line is the real concern.
That unit has already shown too many cracks, and after the struggles it dealt with last season, the Packers can’t afford to open the year with the same problems. That’s why Freddie Boston of FanSided’s Lombardi Avenue has pointed to Kevin Zeitler as a possible fix. The veteran right guard is still unsigned, and he looks like the kind of straightforward, no-nonsense addition that could settle things down quickly.
“Right guard is a potential problem. Anthony Belton has seemingly fallen out of favor, and if we assume Burton is in the mix at left guard, it's likely down to Belton or Monk on the other side,” wrote Boston.
“That's why Zeitler should be firmly on the Packers' radar ahead of Week 1. Let's break that down, along with every other position on the roster, in our updated predictions after two preseason games.”
Zeitler may not be the headline-grabber, but he has been reliable everywhere he’s played. Pro Football Focus ranked him No. 11 among guards last season with a 74.5 grade, and he gave up just 16 pressures and two quarterback hits for the Tennessee Titans.
He has been stronger in pass protection than in the run game, but Green Bay’s issues up front go beyond one phase. The Packers had trouble opening lanes last season, and the early signs in 2026 do not suggest that problem has vanished. Josh Jacobs is a high-end back, MarShawn Lloyd brings explosion, but even good backs can only do so much behind a line that isn’t holding up.
Spotrac pegs Zeitler’s market value at $9.2 million, though that number feels steep for an unsigned 36-year-old this late in the offseason. If he wants to keep playing, Green Bay should be able to bring him to Lambeau for something more manageable.
The fact that the Packers are reportedly weighing Jacob Monk at right guard says plenty about where things stand. Anthony Belton hasn’t locked down the job, and rookie Jager Burton and Donovan Jennings are the other choices.
Green Bay had a chance to address the spot this offseason and didn’t. That leaves the door open to the possibility that moving on from Elgton Jenkins was a mistake, especially if he would have been the better option next to the also underwhelming Aaron Banks.
The Packers have the pieces to field one of the league’s best offenses. They have the quarterback, the playmakers and the offensive mind to guide it. But the line remains the hinge point, and that may be the team’s biggest weakness.
