Packers Starter Rasheed Walker Arrested as Offseason Takes Wild Turn

A key piece of the Packers offensive line faces legal trouble after an incident at a New York airport involving a firearm.

Packers OL Rasheed Walker Arrested on Gun Charges at LaGuardia Airport

Just weeks after a season-ending loss to the Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers are facing an unexpected off-field headline involving one of their key offensive linemen. Rasheed Walker, a rising star on the Packers’ offensive front, was arrested Friday morning at New York’s LaGuardia Airport after attempting to check a bag containing a firearm and ammunition.

According to prosecutors, Walker voluntarily informed a Delta Air Lines employee that his luggage included a locked case holding a 9mm Glock pistol. Port Authority police were alerted and responded to Terminal C, where they located the firearm and 36 rounds of ammunition secured in the locked box.

Walker’s attorney stated that the firearm is legally licensed in Wisconsin, where Walker resides and plays. The attorney added that Walker believed he was complying with regulations by disclosing the weapon and transporting it in a locked case. However, New York’s strict gun laws do not recognize out-of-state firearm licenses, and the possession of a handgun under these circumstances led to his arrest.

“He mistakenly thought because he had a licensed firearm and it was in a locked box that he was able to travel with it,” the attorney said. “We are confident the case will be dismissed.”

Walker appeared in Queens County Criminal Court on the charge and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to court on March 19.

From Seventh-Round Pick to Starting Left Tackle

The arrest comes at a time when Walker has established himself as one of the more reliable pieces on Green Bay’s offensive line. Drafted in the seventh round (No. 249 overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft, Walker entered the league with little fanfare but has carved out a significant role in Green Bay’s trenches.

His rookie season in 2022 was mostly developmental. He appeared in just one game and spent much of the year inactive or on the practice squad, as the Packers finished 8-9 and missed the postseason.

But in 2023, Walker took a major leap forward. He played in all 17 games and started 15, stepping up as a crucial piece of the offensive line during Jordan Love’s first full season as the starting quarterback. His presence helped stabilize a unit that had its share of injuries and shuffling.

By 2024, Walker had locked down the starting job, starting all 17 regular-season games and playing a key role in the Packers’ 9-8 campaign and return to the playoffs. His consistency and growth didn’t go unnoticed-Walker was widely recognized as a breakout performer on Green Bay’s line.

This past season in 2025, he continued that upward trend. He started 15 games and appeared in all 17, helping the Packers to a 9-7-1 record and another postseason appearance. Through four seasons, Walker has played in 52 games, starting 48 of them-a remarkable trajectory for a player drafted in the seventh round.

At just 25 years old, Walker’s best football may still be ahead of him. He’s become a dependable presence at left tackle, a position that’s notoriously difficult to fill, and his development has been a major reason why the Packers have been able to keep their young quarterback upright and productive.

What’s Next?

While the legal process plays out, the Packers and Walker will have to navigate the fallout from this incident. It remains to be seen whether the NFL or the team will take disciplinary action, but for now, Walker’s focus will shift from the field to the courtroom, with a court date set for March 19.

For a player who’s worked his way from the bottom of the depth chart to a starting role on a playoff team, this arrest is an unexpected twist. But if his career to this point is any indication, Walker has shown he can overcome adversity.
