The Green Bay Packers are making moves behind the scenes this offseason, and one of the more intriguing additions is Will Redmond - not the former Packers safety, but the personnel executive who’s been climbing the college football ranks over the last several years. According to multiple reports, Redmond is expected to join Green Bay’s front office after most recently serving as general manager at Auburn.
Yes, college programs now have general managers. That’s life in the modern landscape of NIL deals and the transfer portal - roster management is a full-time job.
And Redmond’s been right in the thick of it, building a résumé that includes stops at Middle Tennessee State, Western Michigan, Kansas, LSU, and Auburn. At LSU, he held the title of director of player personnel, working directly under GM Austin Thomas.
That role put him in charge of evaluating talent across the Southeast - a region that continues to produce a significant chunk of NFL-ready players.
In fact, Redmond’s scouting work has already overlapped with this year’s draft class. He’s spent the last five years evaluating many of the players now preparing for the NFL Combine, especially those from the SEC - which, once again, leads all conferences with 105 of the 329 invitees. That kind of familiarity with top-tier college talent is exactly what NFL teams covet when building out their scouting departments.
While his official title with the Packers hasn’t been announced yet, all signs point to a role focused on college scouting. He reportedly began working with the team during Senior Bowl week, which lines up with the early stages of pre-draft evaluations. It’s a smart move by Green Bay, especially as they look to reload through the draft and maintain the strong pipeline of young talent that’s become a hallmark of their roster-building strategy.
This hire is part of a broader reshuffling in Green Bay’s front office. Earlier this offseason, vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan left to become the Dolphins’ new general manager, taking pro scout Venzell Boulware with him. That opened the door for new hires, and the Packers haven’t hesitated to dip into the college ranks.
Redmond isn’t the only recent addition from the NCAA level. The Packers also brought in Will Smart, a pass rush specialist from Vanderbilt, though his exact role remains undefined.
On the coaching side, Noah Pauley - who followed Matt Campbell from Iowa State to Penn State - is stepping in as the new receivers coach. And Sam Siefkes, the former Virginia Tech defensive coordinator, is now set to coach Green Bay’s linebackers.
As for Auburn, where Redmond last worked, the Tigers are expected to have multiple players selected in this year’s draft. All four of their top prospects received combine invites, including Lew, who’s widely considered the top center in the class despite recovering from a torn ACL.
The Packers are clearly leaning into college experience this offseason - both in scouting and coaching - and Redmond’s hire fits that trend. With his deep ties to the SEC and a proven eye for talent, he brings a valuable perspective to Green Bay’s front office as the team gears up for another critical draft.
