Green Bay’s cornerback picture has shifted quickly in camp, and Brandon Cisse has been one of the players taking advantage.
Carrington Valentine’s hamstring injury has forced the Packers to adjust their cornerback rotation, and that has opened the door for Cisse to get more work with the first team. The second-round rookie has handled the added reps well, and he has not looked overwhelmed by the jump.
According to SI’s Bill Huber, Cisse has been among Green Bay’s most encouraging first-year players so far. His rise has come steadily throughout camp, not just on one or two eye-catching plays.
He has been around the ball and kept earning more chances with the starters. Our own Justis Mosqueda also noted that Cisse has been getting plenty of looks with the ones.
That kind of momentum matters because the Packers still have real questions at cornerback. Keisean Nixon is firmly in place as a veteran presence, but the spots behind him are still unsettled. If Cisse keeps building on what he’s shown, Green Bay may not wait long before giving him meaningful snaps in games.
Of course, cornerback is one of the hardest jobs in football, and rookies usually need time before the consistency shows up. Growing pains are part of the process. Even so, Cisse appears to be giving the Packers exactly what they were hoping to see early in camp.
