Packers Reignite Interest in Game-Changing Trade Opportunity

With Miami's recent roster changes and established connections, the Packers may seize the opportunity to secure explosive running back De'Von Achane, potentially transforming their backfield dynamics.

The Green Bay Packers have been eyeing an upgrade in their backfield, and last year's trade deadline saw them reaching out to several teams, including the Miami Dolphins, to inquire about De'Von Achane. While they decided to stick with Josh Jacobs and Emanuel Wilson, the offseason opens up new possibilities, and revisiting Achane could be on the table.

Why De'Von Achane Makes Sense for Green Bay

The Dolphins have already parted ways with stars like Tyreek Hill and Bradley Chubb, and with Minkah Fitzpatrick also drawing interest, it's not a stretch to think Achane might be available. The Packers have connections in Miami, with former defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley now the Dolphins' head coach and ex-executive Jon-Eric Sullivan as their GM, which could facilitate discussions.

Miami reportedly wants a second-round pick for Achane. The Packers hold the No. 52 overall pick but traded their first-rounder in the Micah Parsons deal. So, the big question for GM Brian Gutekunst is whether Achane's potential impact justifies missing out on the first two rounds of the draft.

Achane's explosive playstyle could be a game-changer for the Packers. Pairing him with Josh Jacobs could mirror the successful dynamic of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery in Detroit.

Alternatively, Achane could take the lead role, especially considering Jacobs' dip in efficiency last season. Cutting or trading Jacobs could free up significant cap space-$8.2 million before June 1 and $11.4 million after-helpful given the Packers are currently $1.5 million over the cap.

Achane's Impressive Stats

Last season, Achane turned 238 carries into 1,350 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, with an impressive 5.7 yards per carry. He also caught 67 passes for 488 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 30.5 receiving yards per game. Achane topped 100 yards from scrimmage in ten of his 16 appearances, showcasing his ability to anchor a ground attack.

The Packers ranked 15th in rushing yards per game (119.8), and while the offensive line had its struggles, adding a dynamic runner like Achane could elevate Matt LaFleur's offense. If the Dolphins are ready to deal and the price is right, this could be a pivotal move for Green Bay to consider.
