The Green Bay Packers are starting to feel the effects of the NFL’s annual coaching carousel-and the departures are beginning to stack up. Defensive backs coach Ryan Downard and linebackers coach Sean Duggan are both heading to Miami to join Jeff Hafley’s staff with the Dolphins. Meanwhile, offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich is in the mix for a playcalling OC role with the Tennessee Titans.
Now, another name from Green Bay’s offensive staff is surfacing as a serious candidate for a major promotion elsewhere. Quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion is drawing strong interest from the Philadelphia Eagles, who are in the market for a new offensive coordinator. Mannion is currently in Texas, serving as the offensive coordinator for the West team in the East-West Shrine Bowl, but he’s also set to meet with the Eagles for an in-person interview-his second round with the team after a virtual session earlier.
If Mannion lands the job, it would mark a meteoric rise for the 33-year-old, who only just wrapped up his second year coaching at any level. A former NFL quarterback, Mannion spent the 2023 season on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad before hanging up his cleats. The Packers brought him on board as an offensive assistant in 2024, and after longtime QB coach Tom Clements retired, Mannion was promoted to quarterbacks coach for the 2025 season.
Now he’s in the running to call plays for one of the most scrutinized offenses in football.
The Eagles are looking to reset after a disappointing end to their season-a Wild Card loss to the 49ers that prompted the firing of offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. Head coach Nick Sirianni has an offensive background and has dabbled in playcalling, but he hasn’t consistently held that role since early in his first year in Philadelphia back in 2021. Whoever steps into the OC role will be tasked not just with designing a scheme around Jalen Hurts, but also with helping to stabilize an offense that lost its identity down the stretch.
Mannion is among the finalists still in the running after several notable names pulled out of consideration. That list includes Chiefs senior assistant Matt Nagy, Bears tight ends coach Declan Doyle, and former head coaches Brian Daboll and Mike McDaniel. With those candidates stepping away, Mannion remains in the mix alongside former Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith and former Colts OC Jim Bob Cooter.
If Mannion does leave for Philadelphia, it would mark the second consecutive offseason the Packers would need to hire a new QBs coach. One internal option could be Connor Lewis, who previously served three seasons as assistant quarterbacks coach under Clements. Though he was passed over for the job last year in favor of Mannion, Lewis remains on staff as the team’s offensive pass game and game management specialist-a role that echoes his responsibilities back in 2021.
The Packers are already navigating a wave of coaching turnover, and Mannion’s potential departure would only deepen the reshuffle. For Green Bay, this offseason is shaping up to be just as much about the sidelines as it is the field.
