The Green Bay Packers are doubling down on stability, choosing to keep Matt LaFleur at the helm. With quarterback Jordan Love thriving under LaFleur's guidance, the Packers are eyeing a promising future filled with championship potential.
Ending last season on a sour note with five consecutive losses, there were whispers among fans about letting LaFleur go. However, his impressive record of 76-40-1 and six playoff appearances in seven seasons speaks volumes.
Many NFL teams would jump at the chance to have a coach with LaFleur's track record. While he hasn't yet taken the Packers all the way, his potential availability would have made him a hot commodity in the coaching market.
The Packers' decision boiled down to a choice between consistency and change. They opted for the former, much to the delight of Jordan Love.
At a recent charity event, Love shared his thoughts on the importance of consistency for a quarterback. "Keeping Matt around is awesome, and I’m very happy about that," Love remarked.
"Learning a new system and terminology is a lot. Being in the same system definitely helps me out."
Back in 2020, general manager Brian Gutekunst made a bold move by selecting Love with the 26th overall pick, even with Aaron Rodgers still in his prime. It was reminiscent of the risk the Packers took when they brought in Rodgers to learn behind Brett Favre-a move that eventually paid off with a Super Bowl and multiple MVPs for Rodgers.
While Love hasn't reached those heights just yet, he's steadily grown into one of the league's top quarterbacks over the past six seasons. Last year, he showcased MVP-level play, throwing for 3,381 yards and 23 touchdowns against just six interceptions. In the playoffs against the Bears, Love was stellar, completing 24 of 46 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns with no picks.
With Love as their franchise quarterback and LaFleur continuing to guide him, the Packers are poised for an exciting future.
