Packers Jordan Love Lands Second Award While Another Star Just Gets Started

Jordan Loves standout performance in Green Bays win over Detroit earns him another weekly honor in a season increasingly defined by rising young quarterbacks.

Jordan Love is starting to look more and more like the guy the Packers hoped he’d become when they drafted him to eventually succeed Aaron Rodgers. And on Thanksgiving Day, he didn’t just show up-he showed out.

In Green Bay’s 31-24 win over the Detroit Lions, Love delivered one of the most composed and clutch performances of his young career, earning his second NFC Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season. He completed 18 of 30 passes for 234 yards and four touchdowns, posting a 124.2 passer rating.

And here’s the kicker-two of those scores came on fourth down. That’s not just execution; that’s confidence under pressure.

This marks the fourth time in his career that Love has earned the weekly honor, and his second in the past six weeks. The other came in Week 8, when he led the Packers to a win over the Steelers in a game that carried extra weight-facing off against his predecessor and mentor, Aaron Rodgers.

The Packers, as a team, are starting to stack up these weekly accolades. Love’s latest nod is the third weekly award for the team this season. Defensive standout Micah Parsons grabbed NFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 7 after a dominant performance against Arizona that included three sacks.

Love’s hot streak isn’t new, either. He closed out the 2023 season with back-to-back weekly honors after wins over Minnesota and Chicago. That momentum seems to have carried into this year, and if he keeps playing like this, the conversation around him is only going to get louder.

On the other side of the ball, the Packers defense deserves some love too. Detroit running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who had been on a tear and had won NFC Offensive Player of the Week twice in the last three weeks, was largely bottled up.

A week after torching the Giants for 219 rushing yards and adding 11 catches for 45 more, Gibbs was held to just 68 yards on the ground and three catches for 18 yards. That’s a significant drop-off, and a testament to how well Green Bay’s defense executed its game plan.

Elsewhere around the league, Drake Maye continues to build his case as a legitimate MVP contender. The Patriots’ rookie quarterback led New England to its 10th straight win, earning his first AFC Offensive Player of the Week award. It’s a well-deserved honor in what’s shaping up to be a breakout campaign.

Other weekly award winners include Christian Benford of the Bills (AFC Defensive Player of the Week), Ernest Jones of the Seahawks (NFC Defensive Player of the Week), Evan McPherson of the Bengals (AFC Special Teams), and Riley Dixon of the Buccaneers (NFC Special Teams).

And don’t forget about Jonathan Taylor, the Colts’ star running back and former Wisconsin Badger. He’s now a three-time AFC Offensive Player of the Week recipient this season, continuing to remind everyone why he’s one of the most dynamic backs in the game.

But the headline this week belongs to Jordan Love. He’s not just managing games anymore-he’s taking them over. And if this version of Love is here to stay, Green Bay might just have their next franchise quarterback already in the building.
