Tucker Kraft is already getting early buzz as one of the NFL’s most intriguing pending free agents, even though his next deal is still very much unresolved.
Greg Rosenthal of NFL.com recently rolled out his top 25 potential free agents for the 2027 NFL free-agent cycle, looking ahead to the class that will be in line for the 2026 regular season. Kraft landed at No. 3 on that list, behind only Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua and Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens, who was franchise-tagged in March at $27.3 million.
That placement only adds more weight to what Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has been saying throughout the offseason: Green Bay wants Kraft locked up long term before the 2026 season begins. Kraft has returned to practice as a full participant, but there still hasn’t been any news of a new contract.
Rosenthal pointed to the shared confidence between the team and the player, even after last November’s ACL tear, and highlighted Kraft’s all-around game in calling him “The 6-foot-5, 259-pounder has rare value as a complete tight end.”
Kraft isn’t the only tight end drawing attention on the list. Detroit’s Sam LaPorta is the other one mentioned, setting up an interesting race in the NFC North.
The next player to sign is expected to come in first, while the second could end up with a bigger number. Both are among the few major tight ends still “due” for new contracts after Kyle Pitts’ three-year, $54 million extension.
At the moment, the top of the tight end market remains a moving target, and Kraft and LaPorta both appear positioned to push beyond Pitts’ deal. Whether either one blows the market open is still unknown, and there have been no details reported on how negotiations are going for Kraft.
Green Bay also doesn’t look likely to be a major player in next year’s free agency, since 2027 is the point when cap pressure is expected to really start tightening for the team. As for the rest of Rosenthal’s list, the leading cornerbacks going into the 2027 class are the Steelers’ Joey Porter Jr., the Bengals’ DJ Turner II and the Broncos’ Riley Moss. The only running back in the top 25 is Bengals back Chase Brown.
