Packers Finally Got The Zach Tom Update They Had To Hear

Despite a string of setbacks for their offensive line, the Green Bay Packers receive a vital boost with Zach Tom's timely return.

The Packers are heading into training camp with a pile of uncertainty up front, but they at least got one major break before the first practice even starts: Zach Tom is not on the PUP list.

That matters because Green Bay is already opening camp without several key starters, including Micah Parsons, Tucker Kraft, Javon Hargrave, and Aaron Banks. The team placed five players on the PUP list, and Parsons is expected to join them. Tom, though, avoided that group entirely.

For the Packers, that’s the kind of update they needed badly. Tom missed the final four games last season, and Green Bay lost all four. He was dealing with a partially torn patellar tendon, an injury that required a long recovery, but the early indication is that he’s ready to roll.

The real confirmation will come when players and coaches speak to reporters this week, but not landing on PUP is a strong sign. It points toward Tom being on track for Week 1, which is exactly where the Packers need him.

That’s especially true after the way last season went for the offensive line. Injuries forced Matt LaFleur to keep shuffling the unit, and the line never really settled. Getting Tom back at right tackle gives Green Bay a legitimate anchor at one spot, even if the rest of the group still has plenty to prove.

There’s no shortage of questions around him. Can Jordan Morgan handle left tackle?

Will Aaron Banks bounce back? Did the Packers make the right move bringing back Sean Rhyan after he made only seven starts at center?

Can Anthony Belton take a step after a rough rookie year?

Tom is the exception to all that noise. According to Pro Football Focus, he gave up zero sacks and just one quarterback hit on 351 pass-block snaps last season. That came after he already dealt with a torn oblique in Week 1 and later played through a back injury, yet it still ended up being the best season of his career.

PFF also ranked the top 32 tackles in the league ahead of the new season, and Tom checked in at No. 10. That put him ahead of players like the Minnesota Vikings’ two-time Pro Bowler Brian O’Neill and the Chicago Bears’ ascending star Darnell Wright, who earned second-team All-Pro honors last season.

So while Green Bay’s offensive line remains a mess of unanswered questions, Tom is not one of them. He overcame the injuries, played at a high level, and now the Packers are counting on him to do it again this fall.

This Season Could Change How Packers Fans See Matt LaFleur

The Packers head into the season with a roster that does not offer many easy answers. Outside of a few obvious pillars, there is not a long list of clear top-five players at most positions, which puts even more weight on the way Matt LaFleur has built and guided the offense since arriving in Green Bay.

LaFleur has earned plenty of credit for his creativity and for finding ways to scheme players open, but this year feels different because the margin for error is thinner. With the offense lacking the kind of star power that can carry a coach on its own, the season becomes a real test of whether LaFleur can keep proving he is more than a good play designer and game manager, and whether this version of the Packers can still look like one of the leagues sharper units. Packers Receiver Battle Suddenly Has One Undrafted Name To Watch

The Packers receiver room has already been reshaped by the departures of Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks, leaving Green Bay with more questions than answers as camp approaches. That uncertainty has opened the door for an undrafted name to get real attention, and J. Michael Sturdivant has emerged as one of the more intriguing possibilities because he brings a blend of size, speed and the kind of versatility teams look for when roster spots are tight.

Sturdivants case is not just about trying to survive in a crowded competition at wideout. His ability to help on special teams gives him another path onto the roster, which matters for a team trying to sort out the bottom of the depth chart while keeping an eye on the bigger picture at receiver. With so much unsettled around him, his opportunity may come down to whether he can keep standing out once the pads come on. [Read more 🡒]

Tucker Kraft Update Could Change Everything For Jordan Love's Offense

Tucker Krafts recovery has become one of the more important storylines around Green Bays offense as the Packers look ahead to 2026. The tight end is working back from the ACL injury he suffered in Week 9 of the 2025 season, and the early signs have been encouraging enough that the team can at least begin planning with him in mind again.

Kraft opened training camp on the PUP list, but the expectation is still that he can be part of the offense when the season gets going. For Jordan Love, that matters because Kraft had grown into a central piece of the passing game before the injury, and the next phase of his return could have as much to do with roster planning as it does with rehab.
