Packers Eye Surprising Dontayvion Wicks Move

With emerging talent and limited draft picks, the Green Bay Packers should explore trading Dontayvion Wicks to bolster their roster depth and address key positional needs.

Dontayvion Wicks is a name that keeps popping up in conversations about the Green Bay Packers' roster decisions. At 6-foot-1 and 206 pounds, Wicks has shown flashes of brilliance that suggest he could become a top-tier wide receiver in the NFL. His route-running skills and knack for getting open make him a valuable asset, especially considering his production as a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Over three seasons, Wicks has recorded 108 receptions for 1,328 yards and 11 touchdowns. Not bad for someone who was initially seen as a depth chart addition.

His standout performance against the Detroit Lions, where he racked up six catches for 94 yards and two touchdowns, showcased his potential. However, consistency remains an issue.

That Thanksgiving game was the only time he found the end zone in 2025, and he averaged just two catches per game over 14 appearances.

Wicks is a reliable WR4 who can step up as a WR3 when needed. But the question is, do the Packers need him in 2026?

With Christian Watson expected to be healthy, and Matthew Golden and Jayden Reed vying for the WR2 spot, Wicks might find himself further down the pecking order. Add in Savion Williams, a former third-round pick, and Skyy Moore, a speedy free-agent acquisition, and the competition for touches gets even tighter.

This brings us to a strategic decision for the Packers. General Manager Brian Gutekunst might consider trading Wicks, especially with the Packers short on draft picks due to the Micah Parsons trade.

The New York Jets, with four picks in the Top 50 of the 2026 draft, could be a potential trade partner. Even a mid-to-late round pick for Wicks would be valuable, and packaging him in a deal to secure a higher pick could help address Green Bay's needs at cornerback and on the defensive line.

With aspirations for a Super Bowl run, the Packers need to make savvy moves. Trading Wicks could be one of those decisions that helps them fill key gaps and strengthen their roster for the challenges ahead.
