Packers Eye Surprise Move For Kirk Cousins

Green Bay Packers show interest in veteran Kirk Cousins as a potential backup, signaling strategic moves for quarterback depth.

Kirk Cousins might soon find himself in a different role in the NFL, especially if he's eyeing a spot with a contending team. After a challenging two-year run with the Atlanta Falcons, Cousins is now a free agent. The options for him to start are dwindling, and he might need to consider stepping into a backup position.

Interestingly, the NFC North could be a welcoming home once again. During the annual meetings in Arizona, Green Bay Packers GM Brian Gutekunst expressed potential interest in Cousins as a backup to Jordan Love.

Packers Eyeing Cousins for Backup Role

Gutekunst shared, "Yeah, we’ve discussed a lot of those options. Obviously that’s a guy who’s got a lot of pelts on the wall in this league, so we’ve certainly discussed all those kind of things."

With Malik Willis heading to the Miami Dolphins in free agency, the Packers are left with Desmond Ridder and Kyle McCord as backups to Love, a situation that might not provide the ideal depth they desire.

While Cousins' peak years may be behind him, his ability to throw the football remains evident. Teams like the San Francisco 49ers and Vikings have demonstrated the critical role a quality backup can play in a team’s success, potentially making the difference between a playoff run and falling short.

Cousins, undoubtedly eager to lead an offense again, faces limited opportunities. However, he might bide his time, waiting for Aaron Rodgers' decision, as he could become a valuable insurance option for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
