The Green Bay Packers have an intriguing name floating around as the NFL trade deadline approaches, and it comes from a place few would have expected: New England.
Sports Illustrated’s Jacob Westendorf floated the idea of Green Bay pursuing Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore ahead of the Packers’ matchup with the Patriots. Barmore, 27, is playing on a four-year, $84 million contract, and his name has reportedly come up around the league after his role in New England was cut back.
That possibility got even more interesting when Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer said during an appearance on NBC Sports Boston that the Patriots might be willing to move Barmore for a fourth-round draft pick. Westendorf said that kind of price would make sense for Green Bay.
“If that’s the case, the Packers should be all over a move like that one,” wrote the NFL analyst.
Barmore has shown plenty of disruption this season, with 3.5 sacks and 10 pressures in seven games. He also posted 50 pressures in 2025, a reminder of the pass-rushing juice he could bring to Green Bay’s front.
For the Packers, the appeal is obvious. Barmore would add another established body on the defensive line and give the unit a different look alongside its current playmakers. Green Bay is also close to getting Micah Parsons back, with the star pass rusher recently returning to practice as he works his way back from a torn ACL.
For now, this is still just a suggestion, not a sign that the Packers and Patriots have actually talked. But with the November 10 deadline coming fast, Green Bay has reason to keep every possible upgrade on the table.

Packers Secondary Is Giving Fans A New Reason To Believe
The Packers secondary spent October making a case that it deserves a lot more attention, and the league took notice. Green Bays defensive backfield earned a pair of monthly honors, with safety Evan Williams and cornerback Brandon Cisse both standing out in a stretch that helped define the teams defensive identity under coordinator Jonathan Gannon.
Williams was a steady force around the ball all month, while Cisse kept stacking productive snaps in coverage and tackling support. For a defense trying to build momentum, having two young players recognized by the NFL is the kind of validation that can carry real weight, even if the bigger question is how long this level of play can hold up once the calendar turns. Packers Patriots History Includes A Few Performances Fans Still Talk About
The Packers meetings with New England have produced a handful of performances that still stand out when fans look back through the matchup history, stretching from the late 1980s to the Super Bowl era. Green Bay has had its share of eye-catching individual outings in those games, from Aaron Rodgers throwing for 368 yards in 2014 to Ahman Green rumbling for 136 rushing yards in 2002, reminders that this series has rarely been short on memorable moments.
Super Bowl XXXI remains the game that keeps coming up whenever those old box scores are revisited, with Green Bays stars leaving a lasting mark on the biggest stage. Desmond Howards return work helped define that night, and Reggie Whites presence off the edge added to a performance that still anchors the Packers history against the Patriots, even if the full story of that game goes well beyond the numbers. Packers Pressure Is Rising As Trade Deadline Decision Nears
The Packers have steadied themselves lately, but the offense still has enough rough edges to keep the trade deadline conversation alive in Green Bay. Even with the recent improvement, the roster picture suggests there are still places where help could make a real difference, and that has turned the next few days into a test of how aggressive the front office wants to be.
Around the league, a handful of names have surfaced as possible fits for what Green Bay might want to patch, with the discussion centered on adding more support in the passing game, along the line, on special teams and in the backfield. Whether the Packers actually move on any of those options is still unclear, but the pressure is building for them to decide if a modest upgrade now is worth the cost. [Read more 🡒]
