Packers Coach Sean Mannion Linked to Eagles Coordinator Role After Key Development

A rising coaching prospect in Green Bay, Sean Mannion is drawing serious interest from the Eagles as they search for their next offensive coordinator.

The Philadelphia Eagles are eyeing a rising name in coaching circles to fill their offensive coordinator vacancy - Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion.

Mannion, just two seasons into his NFL coaching career, is set to interview for the job in Philadelphia for a second time. While his coaching résumé is still relatively short, the impact he’s made in Green Bay has drawn attention across the league. He’s been instrumental in the development of both Jordan Love and Malik Willis - two quarterbacks who’ve taken significant strides under his guidance.

Love bounced back in 2025 after an injury-riddled 2024 campaign, showing improved command of the offense and a sharper feel for the position. But it’s perhaps the growth of Willis that’s turning more heads.

After being cast off by the Titans, Willis found new life in Green Bay, emerging as one of the more intriguing backup quarterbacks in the league. His dual-threat skill set, which mirrors some of what Jalen Hurts brings to the table in Philly, could be a factor in the Eagles’ interest.

Willis is set to hit free agency this offseason and will likely be in the mix for a starting job elsewhere - but his development under Mannion hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Mannion’s coaching journey began after a nine-year playing career in the NFL, including a four-year stint with the Rams from 2015 to 2018. That final season in L.A. happened to coincide with Matt LaFleur’s time as the team’s offensive coordinator.

That connection eventually led to Mannion’s first coaching opportunity in Green Bay. LaFleur created a spot for him on the staff as an offensive assistant, with an eye toward the future as veteran QB coach Tom Clements neared retirement.

Mannion worked under Clements in 2024 before taking over the quarterbacks room in 2025.

Now, with the Eagles reshuffling their staff following the demotion of former offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, Mannion is among several candidates being considered. Others in the mix include Frank Smith (Miami), Jerrod Johnson (Houston), Josh Grizzard (Tampa Bay), Jim Bob Cooter (Indianapolis), and Matt Nagy (Kansas City).

Because the Eagles’ job is a coordinator position, the Packers can’t block Mannion from leaving. If the role includes play-calling duties - which Patullo previously held - it would be a promotion Mannion likely couldn’t turn down. However, if Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni plans to call plays himself, that could open the door for Green Bay to make a counteroffer.

In that scenario, LaFleur could look to retain Mannion by reshuffling his own staff. One option might be to promote Mannion to a coordinator or assistant head coach role with a significant pay bump. But if Mannion does move on, LaFleur has contingency plans.

One possibility is sliding senior assistant Luke Getsy back into the quarterbacks coach role. Getsy held that position in 2019 and was promoted to passing game coordinator in 2020 before departing in 2021 to become the Bears’ offensive coordinator. He returned to Green Bay last year in a senior advisory role.

Another name to watch is Nathaniel Hackett. The former Packers offensive coordinator spent last season working as a consultant on the defensive side of the ball and hasn’t been linked to any coaching openings around the league. Hackett has a long-standing relationship with former Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy, who was recently hired to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers and is assembling his new staff - but as of now, Hackett remains available.

For now, all eyes are on Mannion’s second interview in Philadelphia. Whether he lands the job or stays in Green Bay, one thing is clear: his coaching stock is rising fast.
