Packers Are Closing In On A Huge Micah Parsons Boost

As the Green Bay Packers gear up for a critical part of their season, all eyes are on All-Pro Micah Parsons' anticipated return on Thanksgiving to further bolster their formidable defense.

The Green Bay Packers’ defense has been carrying plenty of weight while Micah Parsons watches from the sideline, and now there’s a clear target for when that changes.

Green Bay is 5-3 after Thursday night’s 27-19 win over the Carolina Panthers, a game that extended the Packers’ run of holding opponents to 20 points or fewer to five straight. Even with several drops from the pass catchers, the defense kept doing the heavy lifting.

That side of the ball has been the team’s most reliable unit so far, even if Jordan Love has been playing at an MVP level. The problem on offense has been less about Love and more about the drops and shaky line play around him, which could keep him from being in the award conversation when the season ends.

But the defense has been the real story, and it has done all of this without its best player. Parsons, the All-Pro pass rusher, still hasn’t appeared this season. That’s expected to change soon.

The Packers and Parsons are targeting Thanksgiving for his return, with NFL Network reporting that Green Bay is eyeing the Nov. 25 Thanksgiving Eve matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

“Parsons is set to practice next week, having hit all of his most recent rehab markers. But that does not mark the conclusion of his rehab, according to sources; it only continues the ramp-up process Parsons’ and Green Bay’s respective training staffs have undertaken.”

That would put his return in Week 12, after the Packers’ bye week.

Even without him, Green Bay’s defense has stacked up strong numbers. The unit ranks ninth in the NFL in yards allowed per game at 314.9, seventh against the pass at 204.0 yards per game, 17th against the run at 110.9, and 12th in points allowed at 20.9. It also leads the league with 22.0 sacks and 15 takeaways.

Parsons’ return would add another jolt to a defense that has already been dominant for most of the season. Last year, his first with the Packers, he posted 12.5 sacks in 14 games. A Week 12 comeback would leave him with a maximum of seven games in 2026, which makes extending his streak of 12-plus sacks in each of his first five NFL seasons a tough climb.

Still, the Packers’ priority has been getting him back healthy, not just for this season but for the long haul. Pushing him too soon could create setbacks or new injuries, and that’s a risk Green Bay clearly wants to avoid.

For now, the defense has held up just fine without him. When Parsons does return, it should only make an already dangerous unit even better down the stretch.

Packers Fans Will Have Strong Feelings About Xavier McKinneys Latest Punishment

Xavier McKinneys frustration after the Packers loss to the Lions did not fade once the game ended, and now it has carried a financial cost. The Green Bay safety was fined by the NFL after publicly criticizing officials in the wake of the Week 7 defeat, a game that left plenty of Packers players and fans pointing to disputed calls that helped shape the result.

McKinney confirmed the punishment after the teams next game, and he made clear he still stands by what he said on behalf of his teammates. For a Packers locker room already irritated by how that loss unfolded, the fine only adds another layer to a story that has not gone away nearly as quickly as the game itself. [Read more 🡒]

Packers Rookie Just Changed Green Bays Trade Deadline Debate

Dani-Dennis Sutton has quickly become one of the more important developments in Green Bays season, and not just because the rookie pass rusher has earned more snaps. What looked like a position group with questions in the preseason has turned into a strength, with Suttons growing role helping the Packers keep their pass rush on schedule even while Micah Parsons has been sidelined.

The ripple effect is showing up in how the front office may approach the trade deadline. Green Bay entered the year with some outside chatter about adding help on the edge, but the current production from Sutton, Lukas Van Ness and Brenton Cox Jr. has changed the conversation, and the Packers now lead the NFL in sacks. In a market that often tempts teams into chasing reinforcements, Suttons rise has made it a lot harder to justify a big move before Nov. 10. [Read more 🡒]

Packers Win Couldnt Hide A Rushing Problem Getting Harder To Ignore

The Packers left Carolina with a 27-19 win, a sharp showing from Jordan Love and a defense that got to Bryce Young six times. But even in a game that checked the right boxes in the standings, the run game offered little comfort, managing only 66 yards on 26 carries and leaving the offense leaning heavily on other parts of the roster to carry the load.

Matt LaFleur did not sound especially encouraged afterward, and the concern is bigger than one rough afternoon. Green Bay has yet to top 90 rushing yards in any of its first eight games, a stretch that puts the problem in uncomfortable historical company, and the coach made clear the burden now falls on the staff to sort it out before it becomes a defining flaw.
