Micah Parsons Stuns Fans With Bold Statement About Packers GM

Micah Parsons, eager to avoid the PUP list, finds himself at odds with Packers GM Brian Gutekunst over the timing and control of his return from a serious injury.

Packers Prioritize Micah Parsons' Health for 2026 Season

Back in January, Green Bay Packers' standout pass-rusher Micah Parsons expressed optimism about avoiding the physically unable to perform (PUP) list as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered last December. Fast forward to the NFL Scouting Combine, and Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst weighed in on Parsons' status.

Protecting a Valuable Asset

Gutekunst emphasized the importance of caution regarding Parsons' return. "I'm sure not only with him but a couple others, there's going to be a lot of pressing to get out there and play," Gutekunst noted.

"He calls me the 'No Man,' but yeah, we'll kinda see. Obviously, we made a very big investment in him, and protecting that investment, I think, is really important."

It's a sensible approach, given the hefty price the Packers paid to acquire Parsons. Trading two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark to the Dallas Cowboys in August 2025, Green Bay secured Parsons with a four-year, $188 million contract, including $136 million guaranteed. His impact was immediate, leading the team with 12.5 sacks over 14 games.

However, Parsons' absence was felt during a four-game losing streak from Week 16 through the playoffs, underscoring his value to a team that slipped to 9-4-1 when he was sidelined. If placed on the PUP list, Parsons would miss at least the first four games of the 2026 season.

High Hopes for Parsons' Return

Gutekunst remains optimistic about Parsons' future contributions. "Players like Micah very rarely become available, and the way he impacted our football team, you guys saw it," he said.

"He's a rare player that can do what he can do when he's on the field, and the way he affects the game and the way he affects winning. So no regrets [to trading for and signing Parsons], and certainly expect him back better than ever once he gets rolling."

Before Parsons can return to form, he'll need clearance to practice, a step that may come later than he hopes. The Packers are clearly committed to ensuring their star pass-rusher is fully ready to make an impact once again.
