Green Bay got a mixed injury report from Matt LaFleur after the Packers’ 20-17 overtime win over the New York Jets, with one update offering relief and another sounding far more ominous.
The encouraging news centered on Jayden Reed. LaFleur said, “I just wanted to give you guys an update, Jayden Reed, he's got movement in all his extremities. He will be staying overnight,” according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.
LaFleur called it “a very scary deal,” adding, “Anytime you see anybody down on the field and have to get carted off.”
Reed was hurt on the second play of the game and appeared to go limp as he hit the turf. Packers players gathered around him immediately, and the FOX broadcast went to a pair of commercial breaks while the cart was brought out.
That injury hits a receiving group that has already had trouble getting Reed, Tucker Kraft, Matthew Golden, and Christian Watson on the field together for extended stretches.
The Packers are on a short week, too, with Thursday Night Football against the Atlanta Falcons coming up on Sept. 24, so Reed’s recovery timeline will matter quickly.
The bad news came with Zach Bako-Bewele. LaFleur said, “An update on Zach Tom, that doesn't look good either as far as you know, I think he could be out for a long time.”
Bako-Bewele, who changed his last name ahead of the 2026 season, was the Packers’ fourth-round pick in 2022. He was ruled out with a knee injury, and because it was non-contact, the concern level shot up fast.
Given the state of Green Bay’s offensive line, that’s the kind of development the team can least afford. MetLife Stadium has not been a friendly place for injuries, and Bako-Bewele now looks like the latest player to leave it with a serious issue.
